The film adaptation ofThe Legend of Zeldais being made in the “closest possible collaboration” withNintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto. The chairman of Sony Motion Pictures, which is producing the film, adds that Miyamoto is a “true genius”, citing the success of theSuper Mario Bros. movie.
This comes from an interview withDeadline, who spoke with chairman Tom Rothman about the studio’s upcoming projects. Here, he sheds a bit more light on the Zelda movie, which so far, we don’t know much about other than thatit will be live-action.

The Zelda Movie Will Be “Huge”, Miyamoto Working On The Project
“Big IP movies are going to stay big,” says Rothman, discussing the variety in Sony’s current movie lineup. “The Legend of Zelda is going to be huge for us. Massive.”
He continues, explaining why he believes that Zelda will avoid the shortcomings of previous video game adaptations. “Because the movie is being developed and made in the closest possible collaboration with Shigeru Miyamoto,” Rothman explains. “He’s a true genius in that world, and it’s really his strong vision that is motivating it. He created it and understands it thoroughly. You only to look at the results of Super Mario Brothers to see.”
The movie is being developed and made in the closest possible collaboration with Shigeru Miyamoto.
Aside from that, Rothman doesn’t have anything else to say about the highly anticipated film. As it was only revealed last year, we probably won’t get a look at it for some time, especially since we don’t know if there’s a cast yet.
While we are some time away from getting more details about Zelda, we can expect this to be a priority for Nintendo. We already know that there’s going to be a Super Mario Bros. 2, with its star, Chris Pratt, saying thatit will start a “Nintendo Cinematic Universe”. With this in mind, we could see even more Nintendo properties get brought to the big screen. However, it’s hard to imagine how an animated Mario film and a live-action Zelda outing could interact with one another. Super Smash Bros. movie, anyone?
The Zelda film director, Wes Ball, is also keeping quiet about the whole thing. He wouldn’t even share what his favourite Zelda game is, lest fans speculate that this is the one that will influence the film the most.
