Comet was a devastating late-game spell in the original Final Fantasy 7, and it’s back inFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth- twice. You’ll experience its coolness in the first chapter, but it’s all one big flashback; you can’t keep your stuff when the plot begins in earnest.
What youcando is grab the Comet Materia all over again, and that’s precisely what we’ll be showing you how to do. Read on to learn where to find FF7 Rebirth’s Comet, plus a quick overview on what to expect from the spell and its second-stage upgrade. (Here’s a hint: substantial devastation.)

How To Get Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s Comet Materia
You’ll first come across theComet Materiaduring theNibelheim flashback sequenceat the beginning of the game. Look for itnear the area with the second mako gas vacuum. You can’t keep it, but youcancheck it out!
Go figure, theComet Materia is still in the Nibel regionwhen you get thereinChapter 11.Cloud and Tifa’s return to their childhood home summons forth all manner of callbacks to the first chapter, after all.

This time, however, it’s hardly hidden behind a bunch of Shinra crates. Instead, Comet is one of the orbs you canpurchase through Chadley for 40 Regional Data Points.
If you need help gathering those Data Points, consider sticking with theNibel region’s Phenomenon Intelquests.

Chadley is in Nibelheim, soproceed to Chapter 11’s initial main quest locationbefore you can cash in for Comet. (Alternatively, you can find him atthe Chocobo Sage’s Manor.)
How Good Is The Comet Materia In FF7 Rebirth?
In short:Comet is pretty darn good. It dealsa great deal of area-of-effect damage,so it’s pitch-perfect for crowd control.
Comet won’t always be your best bet;enemies with elemental weaknesses may take more damage through third-tier elemental spells. But against the bulk of FF7 Rebirth’s tough foes, it’s golden.
When you’ve gained enough AP, you’ll gain access to themore powerful version of Comet, Cometeor, which does the same thing… but better.
How To Offset Comet’s High MP Cost
That said,Comet (and especially Cometeor) cost alotof MPto cast. There is a way, however, tooffset the high MP cost.
Equip the Comet Materia to an allywhilepairing it with the Synergy Materia. This will only let you (well, your ally) castComet, rather than Cometeor, but the results are still substantial.
This will allow the ally tocast Comet with no MP costwhenever your controlled character performsan ATB-based action. Awesome, right? Hook it up tosomeone with a high Magic stat(like Aerith).
And hey, if you ever feel the need to bust out Cometeorinstead, you can alwayslink the Comet Materia to theMagic Efficiency Materia, which reduces costs by50 percentwhen maxed.
