Like all MMOs,Final Fantasy 14has about a hundred different currencies to keep track of. Gil, MGP, Allied Seals, Wolf Marks, Grand Company Seals… The list goes on. Not least of all of FF14’s currencies are Allagan Tomestones, which you’ll come to be very familiar with if you play the game past level 50.
Allagan Tomestones are ever-present in the game, and are used to buy tons of different items throughout each of the game’s expansions. If you’re unclear on how to get Tomestones, where to spend them, or when they become discontinued, we’ve got you covered. Below, we’ll take a look at everything you need to know about Tomestones.

What Are Tomestones?
Allagan Tomestones are a form ofendgame currencythat are awarded by completing specific Duties. Tomestones come in three variations:Allagan Tomestones of Poetics, a rotating uncapped Tomestone, and a rotating capped Tomestone.
Tomestones of Poetics act as analways-relevant currencythat is never phased out, while the other two Tomestones areconsistently discontinued during certain patches. We’ll look at each type of Tomestone on its own below, but first, there are some rules to keep in mind that apply to both.

you’re able to carry a maximum of2,000 of each type of Tometones, but the current highest-level Tomestone is alwayscapped on a weekly basis.
Duty Roulettesare the main way to earn all three types of Tomestones, and give different types depending on your current level. For example, Expert Roulette and Level 90 Dungeons Roulette both give different amounts of Tomestones of Causality and Comedy, while Main Scenario Roulette gives Poetics if you’re below the current level cap, and all three Tomestones if you are at the level cap.

Allagan Tomestones of Poetics
Allagan Tomestones of Poeticsare the most common form of this currency, and can be earned in a variety of content. Essentially, Tomestones of Poetics are earned from anypreviously high-level content. Currently, this applies tolevel 50, 60, 70, and 80 Duties.
You can also get Poetics from content likeHunts, Wondrous Tails,Deep Dungeons, Tribal Quests, or Field Operations like Eureka or Bozja.
As mentioned above, Tomestones of Poetics arealways relevant, so you never have to worry about them rotating out.
Current Allagan Tomestones
In every patch, there are two Tomestones that are always the currentendgame currency. One of these Tomestones isuncapped, meaning you canearn and spend as many as you want, while the other has aweekly cap. Typically, the cap for this type of Tomestone is450 per week, but this israised to 900 in the final major patch of each Expansion.
These Tomestones arerotated out on a periodic cycle. Typically, Tomestones are cycled out at thebeginning of an expansion, and then atevery even-numbered patch. For example, the release of Endwalker rotated out the previous two Tomestones of Shadowbringers, and then these Tomestones were downgraded and discontinued in Patches 6.2 and 6.4.
When this Tomestone cycling occurs, thecurrent uncapped Tomestone will be discontinued, while the currentweekly-capped Tomestone will become uncapped, and anew weekly-capped Tomestone will be introduced.
This means your non-Poetics Tomestones will always eventually become obsolete in a future patch. Luckily, you cantrade them for the current uncapped Tomestone, which we’ll take a look at a bit later.
Current Tomestones are earned fromcompleting content at level cap. Currently, this meansany level 90 Dutywill award either Tomestones ofCausality, Comedy, or both. Additionally, you’re able to get these Tomestones by completingcertain Duty Rouletteslike Leveling Roulette, as long as you are playing alevel 90 Job.
Where To Spend Tomestones
Tomestones are used to purchase a wide variety of items, fromhigh-level geartocrafting materials, and any number of things in between. You can spend Tomestones in any of the following locations.
50
60
70
80
Radz-at-Han
90
You can only spend the two current Tomestones (Causality and Comedy) inRadz-at-Han, while allother locations will take Tomestones of Poetics.
You can also spend Tomestones of Poetics at any ofRowena’s Representatives, which can be found in the three City-states (Limsa, Gridania, and Ul’dah), Foundation, Kugane, and The Crystarium. These NPCs sell previous endgame items and gear.
Where To Exchange Discontinued Tomestones
As mentioned above, Tomestones are rotated out every other major patch, meaning a previously tradeable Tomestone will become obsolete. Luckily, you may trade these in for the current uncapped Tomestone atAuriana in Mor Dhona (X:22.7, Y:6.7).
Keep in mind that this trade will be at areduced rate, meaning you won’t get the same number of new Tomestones as you had of the old type. Be sure tospend your old Tomestones before they expireto get around this reduced rate!
