It’s a common problem, right? You’re playingFinal Fantasy 14, completing dungeons and trials and gods know what else, and suddenly you find yourself receiving that annoying little message that tells you you’ve reached your Allagan Tomestones of Poetics cap. 2,000 isn’t very many tomestones, and you can cap it very quickly.

So what do you spend these precious items on? Luckily, you have quite a few outlets - from gear, to crafting materials, to the precious unique items you need for your relics (if you’re putting yourself through that specific brand of misery). Here’s the full rundown.

Where To Spend Your Tomestones Of Poetics

There are two different types of merchant who can provide you with items in exchange for your Poetics:

There are a pair of these merchants for each full patch of the game (in other words, one each for the base game and each expansion).

The regular merchants for A Realm Reborn (2.0) and Heavensward (3.0) unlock as soon as you reach Level 50 and when you reach Idyllshire as part of the main quest, respectively. Their Sundry Splendors Representative equivalents, however, require the completion of The Ultimate Weapon and Heavensward quests.

The most convenient vendors are the Representatives, who can be found in the following locations:

There will likely be a Representative who sells equipment and items introduced inEndwalker, but they will not be added to the game until 7.0, when Dawntrail launches.

Buying Gear

A very useful thing to buy from these vendors isvery high-level weapons and armourthat would have normally been the absolute best gear you could acquire from a particular expansion. This will let you gain a massive head start with the item level curve for the next expansion.

For example, buying a full set ofAugmented Ironworks Armouronce you’ve reached the end ofA Realm Rebornwill have you set for almost the entire duration of Heavensward’s challenges, as you cannot get a higher item level until around level 56 with High Quality gear.

A full set of gear costs2,655 Poetics, making this a very easy way to spend large amounts of them at a time. There are also weaker gearsets that can be purchased for the same amount, with those being potentially useful for glamour purposes.

This figure includes600 Poetics for a weapon, anddoesn’t include the 280 Poeticsit would cost to purchase matching accessories.

Buying gear this way and then handing it to your Grand Company representatives is a good way to turn Poetics into Grand Seals, in case you need more of those!

Buying Relic Components

For various relic weapons, thepurchase of specific items with Poetics is required for many upgrade steps. This is part of the upgrade process for theLevel 50,Level 60, and once Dawntrail launches,Level 90 relic weaponquests (they currently require different Tomestones).

Even if you’re not currently working on a relic weapon, purchasing these materials in advance is a good way to spend your Poetics if you have nothing else to spend them on.

Buying Crafting Items To Hoard Or Sell

As with relic weapon parts, many very valuable items are purchased through Poetics that areused for crafting. Seeing as these are more difficult to obtain and yet, can be sold on the marketplace, it can be very profitable to find out which materials sell for high amounts of gil and then invest your Poetics into them to form areselling business.

Since themarket board prices fluctuate a lot, finding out which items sell for a lot of money at this moment in time and then managing to sell them for the most profit is both time-consuming and requires some luck, but itcan earn you a ton of gil.

When doing this, make sure you’re buying items that can be traded on the market board! Many items are prohibited from trading.
