At long last, you’ve reached the end credits inAnimal Well, a task that’s no doubt taken you hours and provided plenty of scares and stress along the way. But, wait, what’s that off to the right after the firework show? What’s this television? What’s this house?
Rolling the credits on Animal Well is the end of only the first layer of the game – you’ve still got two more layers of mysteries and puzzles to solve if you want to reach the game’s true ending! As you push into the second layer, here are some things you should check out.
A lot of the post-game for Animal Well can be tricky to discover on your own, with some puzzles literally impossible to solve without other players. No shame in consulting some guides for help!
7Solve The Kangaroo Puzzle
Scary Even If You Know It’s There
The first time you cross paths with the Kangaroo in Animal Well, you’re working throughthe first Ostrich puzzleand you’re already on high alertfrom the terror of it chasing youbeneath the ground. However, once you’ve found and avoided the Kangaroo the first time, it begins spawning elsewhere.
However, whenever you see it, you’ll have the opportunity tocollect K. Shards by throwing Firecrackers to scare the Kangarooaway. It drops a baggie of the Shards for you to collect, solving one puzzle by offering you another one right away.
6Get All The Items
There Are More Than Just Eight
Your inventory when you first begin playing Animal Well is quite small, and you’ll need to manually expand it by collecting four major upgrades required to complete the puzzles around the map. These were:
But believe it or not,there aresomany more itemsyou can collect. The spinning top provides access to puzzles you couldn’t previously access in places you’ve not been likely to think of looking, whilethe Lantern is enoughto clear away patches of spooky spirits.
5Achievement Hunt
Some Are Givens, Some Are Grueling
If you’re playing on a console or PC that tracksachievements or trophies, you’ll be delighted to learn that there are20 of them to collectin Animal Well. Some of them are pretty easy, and you’ll do them without trying to – things likecollecting the flamesor even just getting your map.
But there are a few achievements that’ll take some real doing to find. For example, you’ll need to pop a full 1,000 bubbles throughout the game to earn the “Bubble Ecstasy” achievement, while the deceptively named “Good Ending” trophy comes after you’ve been killed by a friendly Chinchilla.
4Find All The Secret Rabbits
It’s Rabbit Season
You’ve no doubt noticed some ofthe odd rabbitsthat have been lingering in just about every corner of Animal Well so far. They pop up everywhere – as statues in certain rooms, as a massive puzzle that requires community cooperation to solve, and even in your blob’s dreams when you leave them idle without pausing.
In all, there are16 hidden rabbitsthroughout Animal Well, each in a trickier and more convoluted place than the last. There’s no shame in needing to look up a guide on them, either, as this game was truly not meant to be played alone!
3Finish Lighting The Candles
You’d Bat-ter Be Nimble With Them!
Thevery first candleyou come across in Animal Well is in the starting area of the game before you even really know what you’re doing. Just trying to cross a room to enter the main part of the game sees a terrifying spirit spawn from the unlit candle and chase you until you either leave the screen or are captured and killed.
Hidden across the map in Animal Well arenine candlesand thenine matchesyou’ll need to light them.
If you find a candle but don’t have a match in your inventory, it’s a good idea to mark the location of that candle on your map so you can return to it later.
2Collect All The Eggs
There Are 64, Good Luck!
As you played through the first layer of Animal Well, you’ve no doubt found a handful of the assorted eggs hiding in concealed locationsthroughout the map. Stumbling onto a few of them can be pretty exciting when you find one organically, and finding eight is your ticket to fast travel in the game.
But if you’d like tofill up the displays in the egg room, unlock the final door, and proceed toward the game’s real ending, you’ll need tocollect all 64 hidden eggsto do so.
1Discover The True Ending
Nothing Ends With The Manticore
The fact that you solved this puzzle is probably why you’re here in the first place –the Manticore puzzleleads immediately into the second of three layers in Animal Well, but what the heck does that even mean, and how do you reach the third?
The final layer of the game is itstrue ending, which can only be accessed once you’ve collected all 64 of the hidden eggs we mentioned above. Doing so rewards you with egg number 65, the ticket to figuring out what’s up with that weird, dark donut-like structure at near the television.
