This odd, alien weather brings a few perks, and it’s a great opportunity for you to stock up on resources to use for crafting and building. Your plants will also see a boost in their growth, but it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Here’s everything you should be prioritizing during the green rain.

Updated Jul 27, 2025 by Jacqueline Zalace:In Stardew Valley, green rain can be a new and excited weather event, but it can be hard to decide what to do. We’ve updated this list with a few more activities for you to check out next time green rain comes to the valley.
10Visit The Saloon
First Year Only
The first time the green rain falls on Stardew Valley, most of the townspeople will fall into a panic and take shelter in the saloon. Fortunately, there’s nothing to worry about, andLewiswill reassure you that the green rain is harmless. That doesn’t stop some villagers such as Pam from thinking it’s a sign of the apocalypse, however.
you may talk to most of your neighbors at the saloon and see what they have to say about the unusual weather, but some villagers aren’t there.Demetrius, for instance, can be seen outside his home while wearing a hazmat suit, while NPCs such asLinusandLeahprefer to stay outside and enjoy the weather.

9Appreciate The Atmosphere
Everything’s Green!
Even if you don’t watch the weather channel every day, you’ll immediately knowthe green rain is upon youwhen you wake up the morning it occurs. Your entire farmhouse will be bathed in an eerie green filter, letting you know that today is going to be very different from your normal routine.
This spooky ambiance doesn’t just apply to your farmhouse. Every building you enter will have a faint green glow, including Pelican Town and the buildings you place on your farm. It helps make the green rain feel just a little more special, making you unable to escape the rain no matter how hard you try.
8Weed Out Your Farm
There’s No Growth Like Overgrowth
If you were unfortunate enough to have planted fruit tree saplings right before the green rain started pouring, you’ll probably wake up to a message saying they were unable to grow during the night. Fruit trees can only grow when the eight surrounding tiles are unoccupied, so you’ll need to declutter before they can resume growth.
This isn’t the only reason to weed your farm. Like normalWeeds, the plants that spawn during the green rain will yield plenty of fiber and mixed seeds, of both the normal and flower variety. Stocking up on resources should be your biggest priority during green rain days, so these weeds are a blessing in disguise.
7Collect Mossy Seeds
You Can Have Alien Trees All Year Round
The trees that spawn during the green rain are as alien as they are beautiful, but most of them fade by the dawn of the next day. If you want to plant some of these trees to have the whole year round, you’re able to do so by collectingMossy Seeds. When planted, these seeds will grow into the special trees that spawn during the green rain and stick around indefinitely.
Mossy Seeds can be gathered by digging in the ground or shaking their respective trees, just like normal tree seeds. They appear as small green bumps in the ground, so it can be easy to miss them if they’re embedded in the grass. Keep your eyes peeled and you should have plenty of Mossy Seeds to plant the next day.
Green rain trees take a bit longer to grow than normal trees, so have some patience.
6Plant Some Trees
Your Trees Could Use A Boost
With all the weeds and overgrowth you’ll find during the green rain, the last thing you might want to do is add more plants to the mix. However, the rain is beneficial to all sorts of flora, your own included. If you’ve got some tree seeds or saplings you haven’t planted yet, you should consider doing so during the green rain.
Any tree seeds planted during the green rain have a 50 percent chance to grow intoa fully mature treeby the next morning. All immature trees on your farm that are past the seedling stage will fully mature during the night, drastically cutting down the time you’ll need to wait to get yourTappersready.
5Chop Down Some Trees
There’s Plenty Of Wood To Collect
Once you exit your farmhouse during the day of the green rain, you’ll notice a huge influx of new trees pretty much immediately. Most of these will vanish after the rain stops, but there’s a chance that trees spawned on your farm will remain. No matter where they spawn, all trees can be chopped down forWood.
It’s a good idea to upgrade your axe to at least copper or steel level a few days before the green rain. The earliest a green rain can occur is Summer 8, so plan accordingly.
Don’t leave your axe at home, because you’ll probably need to chop down a few trees just to get around the valley. Your first green rain will bring plenty of trees to what’s probably already an overgrown farm, but think of this as an opportunity to accumulate resources for building upgrades later in the year.
4Gather Moss
Save Some Green For Later
The green rain enhances the growth of all kinds of vegetation, includingthe moss you normally seegrowing on trees. During the day of the green rain, pretty much every tree you’ll encounter hasMosson it, making it easy to collect some for crafting later. You’ll be able to tell which trees have moss on them by a slimy green sheen to their trunks.
It’s easy to get overwhelmed while gathering resources, so don’t worry about getting it all done during the day of the green rain itself. There will still be plenty of trees covered in moss for the next few days after the rain ends, making late summer the best time to craft mushroom logs and other items that require moss.
Who’s Hungry For Risotto?
Fiddlehead Fernsare ordinarily found in the secret woods during summer, with other locations such as Ginger Island and the Skull Caverns only being accessible later in the game. As such, they’ll be one of the rarer items you may forage in your first and second year. Luckily, there’s a reliable way to get more.
During the green rain, you’ll see a few trees that resemble giant fiddlehead ferns spawn all over the Valley. Most of these will be gone by the next day, but you may chop them down to get dozens of fiddleheads for yourself. If you plant a fiddlehead tree with a Mossy Seed, an adult tree will also yield one fiddlehead every few days when tapped.
2Speak With NPCs Every Year
Get That Green Rain Dialogue
In addition to visiting the saloon during the first year, you’re able to speak with villagers around town for every subsequent green rain event. This doesn’t unlock anything specific, but it’s a great way to experience unique dialogue that you don’t get to hear too often.
For example, be sure to head to the Mountains and talk to Demetrius; he’ll be wearing a yellow hazmat suit and give some unique, green rain-related dialogue for you to hear.
1Visit The Cindersap Forest
A Farming Paradise
Last but not least, head to the Cindersap Forest if you want to get your farming on. This is a great place to farm items if you’ve already harvested the items on your farm. Remember, a lot of the trees will disappear once the rain is over, so this is the best time to gather most of the ingredients mentioned above.
In addition to heading to the Cindersap Forest, be sure to check out pretty much any location that features a wide and flat expanse. You’ll find the most growth here, allowing you to farm as many materials as possible to stock up for the rest of the year.
