The Wasteland ofFallout Shelteris a dangerous place for a Vault Dweller, and you’ll need to equip your Dwellers with the right items to heal them as they explore. Your Vault Dwellers will be bombarded by Radiation damage as well as physical damage the longer they are exposed to the Wasteland or its inhabitants.

To heal irradiated Dwellers, you need to treat them with RadAway as soon as possible. For Dwellers who have taken a heavy beating, whether from adventuring or saving the Vault from emergencies, you will need to give them a Stimpak to restore lost health.

What Is RadAway?

As they explore the Wasteland and encounter its inhabitants, your Vault Dwellers are bound topick up a few Rads(or Radiation points). Rads are thered portionof a Vault Dweller’s health bar and indicatehow irradiated that Dweller is.

Irradiated Dwellers arelethargic, ill, and unhappy, and over time, theymay even die. Rads will alsolower Health pointsover time, eating into your Dwellers' Health bar.

Vault Dwellers who are otherwisewell cared forwill regain Health points and lose Radsover time.

Tohealyour Vault Dwellers fromRadiation poisoning, you need to give themRadAway.

RadAway is a medical item, stored in yourinventory tab, that removes50 percentof the Dweller’s total health bar worth of Radiation.

So, ifhalfof your Dweller’s health bar is lit up red, one RadAway will remove all the red.Any furtherthan the halfway point, you will need to use two RadAway packs.

RadAway and Stimpaksdo not take up inventory spacein your Storage Facilities. You can check your RadAway and Stimpak inventory by looking at thebottom rightof your Vault’sinventory tab.

How To Get RadAway

You can get RadAway a few different ways, but the most reliable way to get it is bycrafting it in a Science Lab. The Science Lab is a specialized room that uses a Dweller’sIntelligence statto craft RadAway from scratch.

You can haveas manyScience Labsas you wantin your Vault.

You canunlockthe Science Lab after having16 Dwellersin your Vault. Your first Science Lab costs400 Capsto build.

Less reliable methods of obtaining RadAway include finding it as loot inLunchboxes, dropped fromRaiders and other enemies, found incrates at Wasteland destinations, andearned from quests.

How To Use RadAway

There are two main methods to healing your Dwellers with RadAway.

The first method is toheal them manually. To do this, select an irradiated Vault Dweller andclick the RadAway symbolon their character screen. RadAway looks like ablood bag with a nuclear waste symbolon it (a circle with three wedges inside).

The second method is used only on Vault Dwellers who areexploring the Wasteland.

In the Vault, Dwellers who need to use RadAway or Stimpaks urgently will have agreen Stimpak or RadAway symbolabove their heads. Pressing this symbol willautomatically applywhichever item is needed, and heal that Dweller.

Fallout Shelter: Vaultboy gives the player a lesson on how to make Stimpacks.

Upon sending a Dweller into the Wasteland, you mustequip themwith outfits, weapons, pets, andhealing items.Use theplus and minus buttonsabove or below the RadAway symbol toincrease or decreasethe amount of RadAway you are sending with your explorer.

When your Wasteland explorer is irradiated, they willautomatically applythe RadAway to themselves. Any unused RadAway they return to the Vault can bereturned to your storage facilitiesand used for another Dweller.

You mustmanuallyuse RadAway and Stimpaks on Wasteland explorers who areclearing random encounter locationsin the Wasteland. The same goes forclearing Quest locations.

What Are Stimpaks?

Stimpaks function similarly to RadAway and can beobtained earlierin the game. While RadAway eliminates radiation from your Vault Dwellers, Stimpaks are used toheal them.

A Vault Dweller’s health bar is separated into two categories:red and green.Anyred sectionsof the health bar indicateRadiation points, whilegreen sections indicate Health. The goal is for the whole bar to be lit up green. You want as little red as possible (preferably zero).

A Stimpak is used toreplenish halfof your Vault Dwellers’Health barand fill any black portions back up with green. One Stimpak will only heal a Vault Dweller for half the value of the Health Bar. Tofully healan empty Health Bar, you needtwo Stimpaks.

Stimpakscannot remove red Radiation Points, so you will have touse RadAway firstif you want to heal your Vault Dweller’s full Health bar.

Stimpakscannotbe used to resurrectdeceased Dwellers. You need to use Stimpaks when your Dwellers are injured.

How To Get Stimpaks

you’re able to get Stimpaks in thesame waysyou can get RadAway. The only difference is that Stimpaks areproduced in a Medbayand not a Science Lab.

The Medbay is unlocked upon reaching a total of14 Dwellersin your Vault. Just like the Science Lab, the Medbay costs400 Capsto build, and Dwellers assigned to the Medbay will use theirIntelligence statto craft Stimpaks.

You can train a Dweller’s Intelligence stat in theClassroom.

Alternatively, you can collect Stimpaks from fallenenemies, boxesin random encounter locations, quests, or Lunchboxes.

How To Use Stimpaks

When a Vault Dweller is injured, the green in their Health bar will decrease. Sometimes, the other half of the Health bar will be lit up with Radiation points, but other times, it will just be empty.

Radiation eats away at your Vault Dwellers' Health Bars andas long as there are red Radiation pointsin a Dweller’s Health bar, theHealth Point maximum is decreased. Even if you use a Stimpak, you can only recover as much Health as reaches theleftmost edgeof the red Radiation bar.

So, if fifty percent of the bar is red and fifty percent is green, using a Stimpakwill not healany of the red portions. Youmust use RadAwayto get rid of Radiation pointsbefore using a Stimpakto regain lost health (unless there is a black gap between the green and red portions).

Just like RadAway, you’re able to alsoequip adventuring Vault Dwellerswith Stimpaksbeforethey leave for the Wasteland. These Dwellers will also use Stimpaks as they adventure toreplenish their Health bar. The process is automatic.

Youcan’t equipStimpaks or RadAway on a Dweller who isalready exploringthe Wasteland, and Wasteland adventurers can have amaximum of 25 Stimpaks or RadAwayeach.

What Happens When Your Vault Dwellers Die?

Sometimes, bad things happen, and you just don’t have enough time or resources to fix them. When you can’t heal a Vault Dweller in time, theirHealth bar will deplete to zero.

A Vault Dweller with anempty Health barwill enter adeathanimation and eventually collapse. Youcan’t use RadAway or Stimpaksto revive your dead Dwellers. you may only use healing items on Dwellers that are wounded, but still breathing.

When a Dweller dies, you can either choose toresurrectthe Dweller bypaying Capsor toremove the Dweller’s corpsefrom the Vault. If you choose to pay caps to revive the Dweller, they will spring back to life as if nothing happened.

However, choosing toremovea Dweller willpermanently remove themfrom your Vault. You’ll still get tokeepany loot, outfits, weapons, or pets that were on their body.

If a male Dweller dies before their pregnant partner gives birth, they will show up as agrave symbolin the baby Dweller’s birth screen.
