MultiVersusre-launches in just a few weeks and I, for one, could not be more excited to finally play the full version of a game I bought two years ago. Personally, I really enjoyed the original version of MultiVersus, a title that I somehow misspell every time I type it into my keyboard. Then again, I also really enjoyed PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, so perhaps I’m not the arbiter of good taste. We need to admit to ourselves that most multiple-IP-crossover-based fighting games will not be as good asSmash Bros., ever. Either way, after being shunted into the attic like the wife in Jane Eyre, MultiVersus is soon to be fully back with new characters like The Joker.

And more will follow! MultiVersus is a Warner Bros. game, which means they have access to an incredible library of classics they can pull characters from. Steven Universe can fightArya Stark. Gizmo from Gremlins can fight LeBron James, who is - notably - a real human being that exists outside of recorded media.Nintendogave Smash Bros. very fertile ground to work with and MultiVersus might have an even bigger bench to pull from. Metaphors.

Mars Attacks aliens getting off their ship

That’s why I decided to list the top seven Warner Bros. characters I want to see in MultiVersus. Note: These are characters from Warner Bros. productions. The rights may be complicated. Also, there have been data leaks of potential - but not confirmed - characters, so I’m going to do my best to avoid those. But if we can figure out Tom & Jerry versus Marvin The Martian, I think we’ll be okay. So save your emails, because I don’t even know how to read.

7. Mars Attacks

Speaking of Martians, the Martians from Mars Attacks would be a very cool addition to MultiVersus. True, this would give us two Martians but that’s where the similarities end. Also both want to destroy humanity. And they have those powerful heat ray weapons that HG Wells hooked them all up with. But, hey, one wears a Russian legionnaire helmet and the other wears a fishbowl! That’s a start!

Despite the characters’ similarities, a Martian from Mars Attack could add some fun dynamics with their many machines and devices they use to vaporize humans. Also, the original movie and trading cards had some significant body horror, so that could be fun to put on Shaggy. I know this wouldn’t happen even if Mars Attacks was in the game - but I like to imagine it anyway. Sometimes you just need something to imagine to get you through the day.

Ralphie and Santa in A Christmas Story

6. The Kid From A Christmas Story

Before you say anything, I know, I know. The whole “shoot your eye out” part is a little… uh… you know… a little… well, times were different! And that kid would be an amazing addition to the game, withoutthe Red Ryder carbine-action, 200-shot range model air rifle with a compass in the stock and a thing that tells time. I don’t think we have a lot of ice-based characters yet, do we? Arya, and… who else? Doesn’t matter. Ralphie can freeze people to poles or he can throw presents at you or something. Plus, there’s that time when Ralphie goes nuts and absolutely ruins a bully. Just saying. It doesn’tnotwork.

5. Free Willy

Incoming fan favorite! Warner Bros. owns this one, too, and as far as I can tell, it isn’t in any data leaks! Which is surprising, because an orca trapped by an evil amusement park would make theperfectfighter in MultiVersus. The possibilities are endless: Willy could flopoveran enemy, Willy could floponan enemy, and so much more. Maybe Willy could flopunderan enemy as a slide move? Cool! Just saying to any developers reading this who want to go halfsies on a pitch: the Free Willy IP is up for grabs.

4. Clark Griswold From National Lampoon

Is it a franchise owned by Warner Bros.? Yes? Then it’s in the game! $50 for the Christmas skin. Or get it with theSeasons GreetingsPass. Like Season Pass, but Christmas-y? You get it. If you don’t pay for it, you’re as invisible to your friends in the game as you are to them in real life.

3. Cadet Larvell Jones From Police Academy

Warner Bros. has two law enforcement franchises we can go with: Dirty Harry or Police Academy. Dirty Harry is like The Punisher mixed with Punisher Fans Who Don’t Understand The Punisher, while Police Academy features a group of wacky friends doing their best while cracking wise about crooks and the other knuckleheads on the force. In real life, Dirty Harry is probably a better fighter because he’d just shoot Taz in the stomach and somehow be insulting about it on top of the killing.

But in a game? We want Cadet Larvell Jones from the Police Academy movies. Oh you don’t remember Cadel Larvell Jones played by national treasure Michael Winslow? He’s the greatest police officer to ever appear on film and I’ve got ten minutes of highlights to prove it.

Were those pants special? Or was it their friendship?

1. Willy Wonka

I’m as surprised as you are that Warner Bros. owns the rights to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory but they do! I think! I didn’t try hard to look. And - yes - I know it was a book. But as a franchise? Warner! Also - not for nothing - I kinda think this would work? Sure, it’s possibly literary malpractice that would horrify Roald Dahl on a number of levels, but he’s dead and we need more fighters! Give ‘em Hell, Willy! And Willy!
