Summary

Canceling pre-orders for upcomingNintendo Switchgames en masse has been a running theme so far in 2024, and turns out it’s not over yet. Just a week before its release, Walmart has been sending emails to customers withLuigi’s Mansion 2HD pre-orders to let them know those orders have been canceled. As was the casewhen this happened with Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, the store chain has let those customers know the game will still be available in-store on release day, and given them a voucher to use next time they shop with Walmart.

The email being sent to Walmart customers with Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD pre-orders has been shared by Wario64. To make up for the cancelation, customers are being given a voucher for a $25 discount the next time they order something through the Walmart site that costs more than $45. In theory, if Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD finds its way onto Walmart’s site after it’s released, you could use the voucher on it and get it for $25 less than you’d have paid had your pre-order not been canceled.

Not only is it likely that Luigi’s Mansion 2’s remaster will be available online through Walmart from June 27 -Thousand-Year Door is on there nowdespite canceled pre-orders - but you might still get your copy of the game even if you have received the below email. Some who were told their Paper Mario pre-orders had been canceledstill received the game on release day. I’m unsure if they wound up getting it for free, but at the very least they wound up still getting the game and also got a voucher for a cancelation that never happened.

Before Walmart,Amazon canceled pre-orders for pretty much all upcoming Switch games. Paper Mario, Luigi’s Mansion 2, andEndless Ocean: Luminouspre-orders were all canceled without explanation, and without compensation, unlike Walmart. Also unlike Walmart, those games have remained absent from Amazon’s storefront. The site hasalso stopped selling Nintendo eShop gift cards, again without explanation, and the only ones still available on the site are through third-party sellers.

Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD

WHERE TO PLAY

Luigi’s Mansion 2 is an HD remaster of the Nintendo 3DS classic Dark Moon, following Mario’s brother through the spooky mansions of Evershade Valley.

What exactly is going on here remains a mystery, but some fresh theories have surfaced following the Luigi’s Mansion 2 cancelations. One new theory is that Nintendo believes Amazon and Walmart employees have been responsible for prior leaks, meaning they don’t get copies ahead of launch so can’t fulfill pre-orders. Another theory is that Nintendo is negotiating the revenue split with Amazon and Walmart and the sides can’t come to terms on numbers. Whatever’s going on, everyone needs to get their stuff together before the Switch 2’s arrival.
