Summary

Ubisoft’supcoming multiplayer arena shooterXDefianthas bravely positioned itself as a potential rival toCall of Duty, though it feels like it’s been in development for a century. After several test sessions and community feedback, Ubisoft has finally announced a release date for the title, as we’ll finally be able to hop into some fast-paced multiplayer action when the game drops later this month on May 21 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.

This wasannounced by the publisher on Twitter, accompanied bya lengthy blog post on the publisher’s official websitedetailing all the things we can expect from XDefiant in the near and distant future. Starting May 21, the game’s preseason will begin, bringing with it 14 maps (10 arena, 4 progression), various modes, 24 weapons to try out, and five different factions to choose from, one of them based on Dedsec fromthe now dead and buried Watch Dogs series.

The preseason will last for 6 weeks before then transitioning into a regular seasonal schedule, which is laid out very similarly to other titles in the genre. Ubisoft is promising that XDefiant will get a chunky update every 3 months, bringing with it new content and various fixes/improvements to the game’s existing features.

XDefiant Will Be Supported Very Well In Its First Year

If you’re wondering what each season will bring, or just missed when the game’s roadmap was first revealed, it’s clear that Ubisoft is putting a lot of effort into ensuring players will have plenty of new stuff to mess around with during XDefiant’s first year. Each of the game’s first four seasons will add more or less the same amount of content, with a new faction, three new weapons, three new maps, and a 90 tier Battle Pass added every three months.

On top of that, new arena and progression modes will be added across the course of XDefiant’s first year, as well as a full ranked mode, private matches, player protection features, and various new additions to help ease in newcomers. It’s all looking quite promising, though time will tell whether XDefiant has the chops to become the Call of Duty killer that many are hoping it will be.
