Summary

Neither ofBethesda’s next projects,The Elder Scrolls 6andFallout 5, have release windows. The only hint we’ve been given is that the Skyrim sequel will be with us first, followed by the next Fallout. Now, Bethesda confirms that this hasn’t changed, even after the success of the Fallout TV show.

As spotted byVGC, Todd Howard has confirmed that Fallout 5 is still years away. This comes from an interview withIGN, in which Howard reveals that Betheda’s main focus right now is onStarfield updatesand the development of Elder Scrolls 6, leaving Fallout 5 on the back burner.

“So obviously, our focus as far as new development right now is Elder Scrolls 6,” says Howard, before adding, “That doesn’t mean that we’re not making plans for other things.”

However, as far as Howard is concerned, the continuous updates forFallout 76are enough to capitalise on the show’s success. “We’re still doing a lot of work, obviously on Fallout 76, and we see the community, so many people going into that game and kind of rediscovering it and just so happy with where that game is at,” he says. “This has one of the best communities in all of gaming.”

Fallout Fans Are Flocking Back To The Games

While many fans are eager to get their hands on a new single-player Fallout game, Fallout 76 has seen a huge player spike since the show went live on Prime Video. As we previously reported, the MMO reached a new concurrent player peak on Steam due to this increased interest. When the record was set, 39,455 users were online at once, and that just accounts for those accessing the game via Steam. This record has since been smashed again, with 45,173 players logging in just a few hours ago.

The Fallout modding scene is also breaking records, withthe most Fallout 4 and New Vegas mods installed in a single day last weekend. After all, it’s hard to return to a game made in a Bethesda engine without installing a bunch of fan creations and fixes, let’s be honest. The modding community will have to keep us sustained a little longer now it seems, now that we know that Bethesda isn’t making any changes to its release schedule based on the show’s success.

At the very least, we haveFallout 4’s current-gen update to look forward to, coming on April 25.
