Summary

Colony happiness is what drives your colonists inRimWorld. They won’t work hard if there’s nothing to be happy about; they might even go into a mental state from stress. Unhappy colonists can cause a lot of problems. They’ll work slower, or maybe not at all. They’ll start social fights more often and can halt the progress of your colony entirely.

Thecolony sim gamehas lots of ways to keep morale high, though you might have to look into your colonist’s individual needs if their bad mood persists. This list will give you the best tips, so your colonists can get the best out of life while they work to the top.

9Maintain A Sufficient Food Supply

Food is a necessityin RimWorld. Your colonists need to eat well enough to continue doing their work. Without food, your colonists could become malnourished, fall ill, and potentially die. you may grow crops or raise and kill animals and butcher them to gather meat.

Storage for food, like an indoor fridge, is critical to stop your food from spoiling. You should also assign someone with a high cooking skill to create meals, as colonists will be happier if they’re not eating raw food.

8Give Colonists Their Own Rooms

Sharing a room with other people can get on anyone’s nerves. Whether they’re noisy, messy, or someone you just don’t get along with. Your colonists share the same opinions; they’ll be much happier with a personal space to relax and sleep privately.

Creating barracks might be great while you’re still getting your bearings, but it won’t last long. Later on, it’s good to give your colonists individual rooms, so they’re not disturbing each other’s beauty sleep.

7Provide Colonists With Recreational Activities

Recreation is another important part of your colonists’ schedules. Everyone needs time to sit back, relax, and do something that they enjoy. There are lots of different activities your colonists can do, whether that’s going on a walk, playing games, or watching television.

It’s good to have a variety of activities so your colonists have lots to choose from. They can get bored with doing the same thing repeatedly, so it’s good to have options. Some great activities to build immediately are the hoop toss, chess table, or growing foods like strawberries or cocoa trees to turn into chocolate.

6Give Colonists Good Schedules

Schedules are the backbone for keeping your colony running. Your colonists' sleep schedules are already planned (though that can be changed), but it’s up to you when they focus on relaxing and when they get back to work.

Making colonists work the whole day while giving them a few hours of recreation at the beginning and end can create a healthy work and life balance. Colonists will become very unhappy if they don’t have enough time to relax.

If your colonists have therecreation-deprivedbuff on their needs, try creating new activities or increase the recreation time on their schedule.

5Look At Each Colonist’s Traits

Every colonist is unique. Each colonist has traits that change how they live and act. Some of these traits have a major impact and, when not adhered to, can make them extremely unhappy.

It’s easy to keep track of what your colonists need. Some might be night owls and will need their schedules to change. Others may be high maintenance and will need the best of the best. You won’t need to adapt to suit every single trait, but some will keep your colonists in high spirits when you do.

4Make Large, Impressive Rooms

Colonists like having different spaces for everything. Hospitals, kitchens, dining rooms, and rec rooms are some types of rooms that make a colony a home. These rooms don’t have to be incredibly spacious, but your colonists will like them if they are.

Rooms that are too small can feel crampedwithout room for decoration. Decorations add to how impressive the room is and will make your colonists feel more at home in their high-quality quarters. Make large rooms and assign your colonist with the highest construction skill, as they’ll create higher quality structures. Building statues from an art table is also a great way to spruce up the space.

3Keep Your Colony Clean

Unsurprisingly, your colonists like to live in clean places. It’s not great to have a bedroom filled with mess or a dining hall covered in dirt. Colonists like impressive rooms. This includescleaning up dirty areas.

You can assign colonists to clean as long as they’re not incapable of dumb labour, which you can see in their bio tab. Colonists will clean anything in the home area. If there’s a particularly filthy room that’s being ignored, you assign someone to clean the whole room. Colonists will be much happier when they’re not trekking through dirt at home.

If you have the Biotech DLC, have your Mechanitor create Cleansweepers to clean up for you.

2Don’t Let Your Colonists Wear Tattered Apparel

Every piece of apparel has a certain quality and durability. Higher quality apparel is generally made using more materials, is created by someone with a high crafting skill, and will have a higher durability. When apparel reaches below 50 percent, it’s considered tattered apparel. It’s like wearing your favourite shirt, only it’s withholes, rips, and bloody stains.

Colonists, naturally, won’t enjoy wearing such clothing, so it’s a good idea to start making some new clothing. Clothes can easily be made from cloth or animal skin on a tailoring bench. Keeping your colonists in the right kind of clothing will make them comfortable and much, much happier.

You can assign apparel to your colonists to make them automatically change out of tattered apparel.

1Assign Colonists To Work They’re Passionate About

There’s nothing more upsetting than being stuck in some dead-end job you hate doing. Colonists are the exact same. They’ll be much happier to complete tasks related to work they’re passionate about. Not only will they receive a mood boost, but they’ll also increase their skill quicker and perform the task faster.

You can see what skills colonists are passionate about in their bio tab. The skills with flames next to them are ones your colonists are interested in; the more flames, the more passionate they are about that work. Your colonists won’t just be happier; your entire colony will run much more efficiently.
