Summary
It took a little bit of time, and perhaps a bit longer than it should have, but thePlayStation Plus Classics Game Catalogis finally hitting its stride. The initiative, which brings an array of classic video games from throughout PlayStation’s history to modern hardware, got a big jump early when the original Syphon Filter debuted as part of the program. However, over the months, its offerings began to stagnate, with titles like Disney’s Up movie tie-in joining the fold, andnot titles like Ratchet and Clank or Sly Cooper.
That said, things picked up majorlywhen, in June, Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus joined the catalog, as well as PSP’s Daxter. The latter of which now ensures that every Jak and Daxter game, including spinoffs, is available on modern hardware. Now, it appears that another hit PS2 game will soon be making its way to the catalog. That is if ratings from a Taiwanese ratings board are to be believed.
TimeSplitters Could Be Joining The PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog
As first spotted by Gematsu, 2000sTimeSplitterswas recently rated in Taiwan. The rating extends to both thePlayStation 4andPlayStation 5versions of the game, suggesting that it will be part of the PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog in the same way that other titles, like Sly Cooperand Resistance: Retribution are.
Normally, ratings board classifications are hit-and-miss. Sometimes, they do lend credence to a game’s potential release date, platform and overall age rating. Case in point,Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero received a rating in Singapore that revealed a 2024 release date. A few weeks later,it was announced that the game would be launching in October. Other times, they can’t be trusted.
That said, the Taiwanese ratings board is very trustworthy when it comes to upcoming video games. That board was responsiblefor leaking Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time ahead of its reveal, as well as other PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog titles.Just several months ago, Tekken 6 and Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny were both rated, andboth made their way to modern hardware.
In other words, TimeSplitters is probably coming to PS4 and PS5. It remains to be seen when, though July could be a strong bet.Whether TimeSplitters 2 or TimeSplitters: Future Perfect will come, well, that remains to be seen. Never say never, though.
