Look For The Misdirection
One of this game’s favorite tricks to play is tohide things in plain sight.They’ll pile a ton of things on you, and then plop a piece of the puzzle straight into your lap. Often, you’ll be so overwhelmed that you will completely skip by it. So, make sure to keep track of everything being presented, especially things that stick out. It isn’t always going to be as obvious as something being underlined in red marker.
They also like to utilize bait-and-switches quite frequently.This letter is actually a number (because it is a Roman numeral), but the next letter may not be a numberora letter, itmaybe an angle. Don’t take anything for granted, because that is when they’ll get you.
In general, if anything sticks out as being odd, or unnecessary, ask yourself why it is there.
Prioritize Map Discovery Early
The moment you enter the hotel, you can explore the cellar and find theArchitect’s Sketches. This document isactuallya series of puzzles, each page is a puzzle, and each puzzle will provide you with a passcode for a different document tube. Once you open a document tube you will be rewarded with a map of the floor you found that tube on. To figure out which puzzle is associated with which tube, locate the name on the tube, and match it to the name on the seal on Architect Sketch.
These maps are extremely detailed, and keep track of what doors you have unlocked. They also include details associated with the different puzzles you will be solving. We played through the majority of the game without having obtained these maps, and it was ahorriblemistake.Make your life easier, and get those maps early.
Let The Red Paint Guide You
There is red paint all over: often in the form of footprints. These footprints will often guide you to key puzzles and American Dollars.When you first enter the hotel, the game opens up in abigway; there will quickly be a bunch of puzzles you could potentially solve, and the more you unlock, the more puzzles become available (exponentially).
However, while we encourage you to wander and explore, the paint will give you a pretty clear indication of what is important in the early parts of the game.Let the paint guide you to certain key puzzles, and help you solve them by indicating some of the pivotal elements.
Move On If You Feel Like You Are Missing Something - You Likely Are
Some puzzles are self-contained and can be solved without any further context, but that isn’t often the case. The lion’s share of puzzles in Laser Eyes are impossible to solve without a document, book, or other piece of information found elsewhere.
The best example of this are all the doors that are locked with a movie poster beside them. You don’t have the necessary information for opening them when you first enter into the hotel.
If You Are Lost, Consult Your Mental Notes
One of the handy features you will have at your disposal is the ability to consult your “Mental notes”. Every single time you encounter something that needs to be opened, or a puzzle that needs to be solved, it will be marked down in your mental notes. This means that it effectively acts as your to-do list.
There are a lot of puzzles that can’t be solved until you completeotherpuzzles. It is pretty easy to lose track of some of this stuff, but your mental notes will help remind you of the tasks you still need to complete.
In conjunction with the mental notes, you can also consult your “Personal history”. Every time you open a door, or obtain an item, it will be logged in your personal history. If the mental notes section is for things you need to do, the personal history is the section that keeps track of what you’ve already done.
We are parroting something the game’s manual says, but it really can’t be overstated.Being able to reference pieces of information while solving a puzzle isincrediblyhelpful.There is a lot of information to keep track of, and relying on your memory is a recipe for disaster (no offense).
Sure, you can always consult your memories, and doing that is very useful, but you can’t have a document open while also solving a puzzle if you are just using the game’s memory system for reference. Similarly, the game gives you a calculator, but it is nice to be able to use one while actually solving a puzzle.
When it comes to maps (like the map for the maze) you may want to consider taking a screenshot of it with your phone.You are going to want to have that map on hand whenyou are working your way through that labyrinth.
Yes, if you are allergic to the touch of paper you’re able to just use your phone to write notes and such, but being able to draw diagrams is super helpful, so we think the ol' pen and paper is still the way to go.
Coffee Will Let You Run
As you progress through Lorelei and the Laser Eyes, you will stuff your pockets with American Dollars. Typically, you’ll spend these dollars on frivolous things like games for your Byte Seyes, or collectible capsule toys. However, there is something you can purchase that will provide you with a pretty notable advantage - The Black Arts Coffee Club membership.
For ten dollars,you will be provided with a mug which you can use at any of the coffee machines positioned around the hotel.Drinking a cup of coffee will provide you with a momentary speed boost,allowing you to move around the hotel at an accelerated pace. Needless to say, this is incredibly useful.
In order to unlock the cafe,interact with the plaque beside the red window on the second floor.This will cause a brick to crash through it. Attached to the brick will be a key to the café.
How To Unlock Shortcuts
In order to unlock shortcuts, you simply need to solve the problems found in the “S.C. Bolt’s Number Puzzles Volume 1”. Just match the puzzle number to the door number. The answer to that puzzles will be the passcode you are looking for. You’ll encounter this book in the library on the first floor of the hotel.
Despite looking like a classic combination lock, the shortcut locks only require one number. It is also worth noting that how you turn the dial is irrelevant. Technically, this means you could brute-force them, but if you are at your wits' end, you would be better served simply consulting our guide for unlocking these sealed doors.
While the book contains the same puzzles across every playthrough, the door they are associated with changes.
Every document you read will be committed to memory. So, even if you aren’t in the mood for reading, if you encounter a bunch of books, notes, and documents,make sure to at least click on each one and commit each document to memory.You won’t encounter many documents that aren’t integral to solving a puzzle down the line, so you’ll want to have these documents on hand at all times.
Early game documents that seem trivial will often be the key to solving puzzles, or answering questions, later in the game. You want to have that photographic memory as fully stocked as possible. So,even if you can’t be bothered to read through a document at the moment, at least click on it so that it will be added to your photographic memory.
