Summary

WhileDragon’s Dogma 2is arguably a fantastic fantasy RPG, that doesn’t mean it’s perfect. In fact, it’s far from that, and while there are plenty of humorous things in the game, there are some aspects that just don’t make any sense. While suspended disbelief makes a game more enjoyable some of the time, there are others where it’s blaringly apparent and distracting.

None of this is meant to throw shade, but instead shed light on areas for improvement. We’ve covered some of the most nonsensical parts of Dragon’s Dogma 2 to highlight how game design is crucial to a good experience, but also leads to quite comical encounters.

8Why Is There Only One Save File?

In this day and age, there’s no reason to have a singular save file. People share games and accounts, and having just one save file makes things inconvenient. Sure, having one save file can deter players from save spamming and encourage them to have one concurrent playthrough, but with features like thegame-ending Dragonsplague, it’s just cruel.

While you canbackup your save, the process is more of a hassle than it needs to be. Besides, sometimes you make a mistake. Just because the real world isn’t forgiving, doesn’t mean the fantasy world needs to be, too.

7Why Are There Senior Citizens In The Forest?

One of the best things in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is finding friendly parties of adventurers wandering through the woods. These add a pop of excitement to know that you’re not the only group making the long trek from Vermouth to Bakbattahl, but sometimes the people you run into just don’t make sense.

Take for example the group of elderly adventurers that you can encounter. It was funny at first, but what happens if they come across too tough a foe? They can handle themselves, but it’s now a worry that crosses my mind.

6Why Can You Pick Up Some Creatures But Not Others?

It’s great that you can pick up creatures like rabbits and boars, but why not others? The number of times I tried to pick up a rat just for it to run away has greatly hurt my pride – especially when one ran into the Brine and was swallowed up. The rats are roughly the size of the rabbits, so it shouldn’t be an issue.

It seems like an oversight. Creatures like chickens and goblins are fair game, but not the rats. My goals of picking up all the fluffy animals will be incomplete until this is fixed.

5Why Does No One Care If You Pick Them Up?

Speaking of picking things up, why does no one make a fuss if you pick them up? For characters in need of rescue, like Doireann, it makes sense that they’d be grateful for the help.

However, that one guard I accidentally picked up (and subsequently threw on the ground by accident while sprinting) just picked himself up and dusted himself off. Are the people of Vermund used to being thrown around like rag dolls, or are they just that scared of what the Arisen might do?

The Arisen stands beside the Vernworth Portcrystal in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

4Why Is Fast Travel Inconvenient?

The whole point of fast travel is that it’s quick and easy to use. There are generally plenty of points you can use to get around to vital areas. I trekked all the way from Vernworth to Bakbattahl only to find out there was no Portcrystal in the city, so I would need to walk back again or take an oxcart.

Sure, you’re able to set your own Portcrystals, but they are few and far between in-game unless you spend real money on microtransactions. I’ve only come across 2, and I still have to place them myself, which means at least a second trip to Bakbattahl on foot.

3Why Are The Only Two Canon Love Interests Female?

The Beloved system isn’t as straightforward in Dragon’s Dogma 2 as it was in its predecessor, but you can still pursue relationships with just about everyone. However, there are two specific characters that receive more attention than the rest: Wilhemina and Ulrika.

Both feel forced onto the Arisen as options, though there’s no obligation to pursue either of them. Still, even games likeStarfieldat least had four characters to choose from. A bit more variety would have been appreciated, especially when characters like Brant and Glyndwr are present in the story.

2Why Can’t The Arisen Be An Elf?

There are two playable races in Dragon’s Dogma 2: humans and beastren. However, there are elves that reside in the Sacred Arbor. While you may give your human Arisen pointed ears like the elves, you’ll only ever be referred to as human.

It just doesn’t make sense, and the opportunity to build a narrative bridge between the elves and the humans is missed. It’d be one thing to not have elves at all, but to have them as a third race in the world and not be part of the character creator feels like missed opportunity.

1Why Can You Redesign Your Appearance At Any Time?

At least if you change your mind about your appearance later, you can change it. However, you can fully change your character’s design if you purchase the Art of Metamorphosis. What’s odd is that you can spend much more gold to adjust minor details as opposed to having almost full access to the character creator.

Instead of spending tens of thousands of gold on small, minor changes, you can spend 500 Rift Crystals on the Art of Metamorphosis and get it all done in one go.
