Summary
Evil Empire has confirmed thatThe Rogue Prince of Persiahas nothing to do with the rest of the series and is its own standalone thing, although references to other games could be added over time.
2024 has already been the most memorable year for Prince of Persia in more than a decade(and we meangoodmemorable, notbadmemorable like with the Sands of Time remake), but it’s about to get even better. Yesterday, a new Prince of Persia roguelike fittingly calledThe Rogue Prince of Persia was announced at the Triple-i Initiative showcase.
Since that initial reveal, severalpreviews and interviews regarding Evil Empire’s take on the Prince of Persia series have been released, giving us a better look at what’s going to set The Rogue Prince apart from the rest of the series. One of the most notable bits of information is that The Rogue Prince won’t have anything to do with the rest of the series, as it’s considered a standalone experience in a new universe.
The Rogue Prince Of Persia Isn’t Connected To The Other Games
This was revealed by Game Informer, who recently had the chance to preview The Rogue Prince of Persia and talk to its developer, Evil Empire. While chatting with art director Dylan Eurlings, Game Informer asked if there was a connection between The Rogue Prince of Persia and the other games in the series.
In response, Eurlings revealed that it’s a “totally new story and new universe” that isn’t linked to what came before. It seems that there are currently not many easter eggs or references to previous Prince of Persia games in The Rogue Prince either, although game director Lucie Dewagnier says that it’s something that could happen during the game’s Early Access run.
Dewagnier was also asked if we were getting too much Prince of Persia considering we just saw the release of The Lost Crown, to which they said, “No, I think there is no such thing as too much Prince of Persia”.
Although it’s made pretty clear from Eurlings and Dewagnier that the Rogue Prince isn’t going to be tied into the larger Prince of Persia universe, there are, of course, some allusions to the rest of the series. One example I noticed in Game Informer’s gameplayis that the Prince still drinks water from a basin to restore his health, which is a direct nod to the Sands of Time trilogy.
