Summary

Resident Evilremakes offer the chance to give older games in the franchise a fresh coat of paint and modern mechanics. It is also a chance to refresh players on older storylines and change the canon slightly to connect with other titles in the series.

This can be a great opportunity to improve an older game or even fix a few plot threats that could have been handled better the first time. So, which games do fans want to see make a comeback, and which ones would benefit from a modern update? These are ten Resident Evil games that need remakes.

Resdient Evil Code Veronica - Claire Redfield backing away from a zombie engulfed in flames in Rockfort Prison

10Resident Evil Code Veronica X

Most Wanted Resident Evil Remake

Resident Evil Code Veronica X is a vital part of the story arc in the first five games in the series. This includes the reveal that Wesker survived the events of the Spencer Mansion and the status of the Umbrella Corporation post-Raccoon City outbreak.

It also ties up loose ends, such as Claire’s objective of finding her brother in Resident Evil 2. Code Veronica was released on platforms such as the PlayStation 2, the Gamecube, and the Xbox 360. However, the game starts to feel dated as time goes by.

A Satisfying Prequel

Before the events of the Spencer Mansion, the S.T.A.R.S Bravo team was sent to investigate a series of strange events in the Arklay Mountains. After being attacked by zombies, only Rebecca Chambers remained. Teaming up with the convict, Billy Coen, she discovers terrifying Umbrella secrets in a hidden facility.

The prequel offered two characters to play as and puzzles that required you to manage both of their positions at the same time. However, the story adds more questions than answers and could definitely use a modern adaptation to make it fully fit within the established canon.

Where It All Began

The original Resident Evil has been remade countless times. From a director-cut edition on the PlayStation to a dual-screen rendition on the Nintendo DS, the most definitive version so far has been the HD Remake first introduced for the GameCube.

Seeing as the franchise can go with a first-person or over-the-shoulder camera style, it could allow players to experience the original story all over again. With tight corners, slow zombies, and plenty of opportunities to scare you, the Spencer Mansion is the perfect location to modernize.

Tyrant and the first person view from Resident Evil Survivor

7Resident Evil Survivor

A Forgotten Storyline

Resident Evil Survivor was the first game in the franchise to use a first-person camera angle. Unfortunately, it had its own set of problems, including slow-loading screens, a pacing that did not befit an action shooter, and limited control options that made tackling some enemies too difficult.

After the success of Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village, the concepts first introduced in Survivor have been refined. This opens the door for future first-person games or even side stories that take place within the same universe.

Overworld and Combat in Resident Evil Gaiden

6Resident Evil Gaiden

Pixelated Horror

TheGameBoy Color era of gamesincluded one entry in the series. This is Resident Evil Gaiden, which stars Barry as the main protagonist aboard a zombie-infested ship. While the story is not canon due to the death of Leon S Kennedy, its gameplay and overall structure are viable enough for a stylized remake.

Combat is similar to games like Undertale, where you must align your shots with a bar that appears at the bottom of the screen. Hitting your mark means landing headshots, and touching enemies starts a battle rather than combatting zombies in the overworld.

5Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles

A Light Gun Experience

Fans familiar with The House of the Dead will love to hear that a Resident Evil light gun game series exists for the Nintendo Wii. The Umbrella Chronicles recounts both events in the Arklay Mountains and the Raccoon City Outbreak.

Using motion controls, players can aim, shoot, and collect intel across multiple scenarios. The game also answers a few questions fans have had for years. How exactly did Wesker escape the mansion? How did Ada Wong escape Raccoon City?It also delves deeper into the final fall of Umbrella with new locations and bosses.

4Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles

Filling Story Gaps

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles is another entry in the light gun shooter series. This “sequel”, like its predecessor, offers plenty of lore bits that could be remade for the modern audience. It covers the events of Resident Evil 2 and Code Veronica.

The Darkside Chronicles also adds additional lore to Resident Evil 4, diving deeper into Krauser’s first mission with Leon and how he came to turn against his former comrade. Once again, the light gun gameplay offers a very active playstyle that can be translated in any number of ways, from VR to light sensors.

3Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City

Underwhelming But Promising Premise

Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City featured never-before-seen S.T.A.R.S members facing off against Umbrella agents during the height of the Raccoon City outbreak. Players could shoot each other, infect the other team with viruses, and even unleash bioweapons to aid their own team.

A remake could potentially bring the concepts that worked back while fixing some of the other gameplay elements that failed to impress. Seeing as the game was considered a what-if to Resident Evil 2, it would also be fun to see new scenarios in the modern canon.

2Resident Evil 6

Underrated Gem

With three different scenarios and a tonal shift within each one, Resident Evil 6 is often viewed as the franchise’s tipping point from horror to action. It marks the first time characters like Leon and Chris come face to face in a mainline title. It also brings back zombies in Leon’s campaign.

New additions to the crew include an adult Sherry Berkin, and even the son of Albert Wesker, Jake Muller. Unfortunately, such a momentous plot twist is underutilized but could be brought back in a more refined remake of the game.

1Resident Evil Outbreak

Co-Op Zombie Fun

If you ever wanted to see the Raccoon City outbreak from the perspective of the civilian population, Resident Evil Outbreak is the game for you. Witha four-player co-op, players could go through multiple scenarios taking place in Raccoon City. They would also need to complete them before the infection takes hold.

One major aspect that was absent from the original title was voice chat. Despite this, the game was a success. Giving Outbreak a new remake would allow both games to fit into one title while giving players a new way to experience the famous outbreak.
