Summary

The success of theNintendo Switchhas clearly inspired the rest of the major players in the video game world to give handheld gaming another try, or in some cases a first try. TheSteam Deckhas been a hit, and there arerumors that Xbox might be dipping its toe into the handheld gaming worldin the future.PlayStationwent a different route despite having previous when it comes to handheld consoles by releasing the Portal, and it has been more popular than anyone could have imagined.

Pre-orders for thePlayStation Portalsold out almost immediately and despite releasing in November of last year, thePS5companion device has been out of stock everywhere ever since. Whenever it is back in stock somewhere, that site usually gets virtually mobbed until they’re gone again, so I can only imagine that’s what’s happening at Best Buy right about now.

PlayStation Portal-1

The Portal is once again back in stock at Best Buy, and as usual, you will need to act fast if you want to finally secure one of your own. If you have been trying to track one down since pre-orders went live, then you’ll know the drill by now. The link to the PlayStation Portal’s Best Buy store page is in the box below, and if you have happened upon this article soon enough after it was published, then clicking it will hopefully take you to a page where the device is still in stock.

PlayStation Portal

It seems a fresh batch of Portals must have shipped recently as the device has been restocked, and then immediately sold out, in a few places. Hopefully that means if you did arrive at this article after it was already too late, it won’t be long until they are restocked elsewhere. PlayStation Direct has had them in stock this week, albeit briefly, and I believe Amazon did too. Both restocks happened and then sold out again so quickly that I didn’t have the time to write about it and inform those of you who still want one.

The Portal’s success comes as a surprise as the product had a lot of detractors when it was initially revealed. Since the Portal needs a WiFi connection and to be paired with a PS5 to function, many questioned how many people would really want one. Turns out quite a few of you. It’s perfect for PS5 owners who have limited access to the TV to which the console is connected, whether that be because they have a partner who playsFortniteon another platform or kids who just want to watch Bluey. No, I don’t know why those examples are so specific, why do you ask?
