TheMarvel Universeis full of heroes and villains. Some heroes are self-made using technology, while others are enhanced with super serum. Meanwhile, some humans are born with extraordinary abilities due to a mutation in their genetic code. These are the Mutants and, despite how society treats them, they fight for a future in which they can co-exist peacefully with humans.
From comic books to live-action adaptations, mutants have displayed a wide variety of powers, including telekinesis, control of the weather, and even the ability to alter reality. The sky is the ceiling. These are X-Men’s ten most powerful mutants.

Updated by Alexander J Pinera on July 29, 2025:As the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand, even more characters are getting fresh adaptations. This includes characters such as Wolverine, The Fantastic 4, and Beast. While their presence is only brushing upon the MCU, there are many more characters which, if introduced, would become major players due to their comic book strength. This includes omega-level mutants whose powers could make Thanos feel like a street-level villain in comparison.
13Leech
Steals Your Powers
Leech is a mutant with green skin and an unknown origin who can take away superpowers. This skill works on proximity, so any mutant that gets too close will find that their abilities are weakened or even snuffed out.
Even characters like Beast whose power manifests as physical traits, find themselves reverting into humans if they aren’t careful enough. In comics, this power is also shown to be effective in nullifying supernatural and extraterrestrial powers; Leech made live-action debut in X-Men the Last Stand as his DNA was used to make a cure.

12Storm
Manipulate The Weather
Storm is one of the more popular Mutants in the X-Men franchise. With the ability to call down storms, she was revered as a goddess in Egypt, and by using her powers, she would support her people in times of drought.
She would eventually be approached by Xavier and accepted into the school of mutants, where she became an official member of the X-Men. Despite having lightning motifs, her abilities extend toward control over tornados, blizzards, hurricanes, and mist, and she even has control over space weather such as solar storms.

11Wolverine
Angry And Dangerous
Wolverine has an adamantium skeleton and regenerative abilities, and while his powers may not be as world-ending or destructive as other mutants, his perseverance makes him one tough cookie. He is cursed with amnesia and an archenemy that doesn’t seem to want to let him go.
Wolverine has fought countless battles against mutants and beings with flashier powers, yetWolverine has almost always come out on top. Despite his personality being a work in progress among the peace-seeking X-Men, Wolverine ultimately proves himself as a force of good.

10Rogue
Instant Death
Rogue is one of the deadliest mutants in the X-Men universe; her first kiss put her then-boyfriend into a coma, which would traumatize her for life. This is due to her ability to absorb energy, powers, and even personalities.
Unlike other mutants who can control their abilities to some extent, Rogue’s deadly touch prevents her from having any sort of physical relationship and keeps her distant from others. Controlling this power becomes her main goal in Xavier’s school, hoping to someday wield it with purpose.

9QuickSilver
Didn’t See That One Coming
Quicksilver might have been killed off in the MCU prematurely, with his comic book counterpart having many other adventures. X-Men Apocalypse, however, gave QuickSilver one of the best moments in the X-Men films.
Being able to move at supersonic speeds, QuickSilver can move faster than time itself as he quickly saves multiple mutants, including a dog and his pizza. This extended sequence has comic book fans wondering if QuickSilver is too overpowered, so it looks like the MCU will never know.

8Magneto
Most Complex Villain
Magneto is not just one of the most compellingvillains in the X-Men franchise, but also one of the most powerful. He grew up only knowing hate from the Nazis, and later he would be hated even more due to his status as a mutant.
This later fueled his desire to conquer the Earth, allowing mutants to live freely and break all ties with humanity. This desire contrasts with the X-Men and Xavier’s philosophies, which are rooted in wanting to have peace between both people.

7Professor Xavier
Dreaming Of A Better Future
Charles Xavier, also known as Professor X, is the headmaster of the school of mutants, and his powers include mind control, telepathy, and even the capacity to shut down all brain activity. In the wrong hands, these powers could bring the world to its knees, luckily, Xavier chooses to use them for good.
In X-Men Days of Future Past, an elderly Xavier starts losing control over his powers, with devastating results. Unable to keep them in check due to his rapidly aging body and mental state, his powers suddenly activate, causing devastation to those around him.

6Jean Grey
Telepathy Host To Dark Phoenix
Jean Grey has the power of telepathy, which has been used both offensively and defensively. While her powers are strong and can hold up on their own, it also makes her body susceptible to being a host for an even more powerful entity.
After being possessed by the Dark Phoenix, she would gain tremendous power but lose control of herself as she killed and resurrected countless X-Men. Ultimately, Jean Grey would prove to have a will capable of breaking free as she sacrificed herself to prevent even more death.

5Franklin Richards
Manipulate Space And Time
The Fantastic 4 gained their abilities during a freak accident in space that exposed them to cosmic radiation; this would alter their lives forever, but ultimately, they would find fulfillment in their new roles. In some realities, Reed and Sue Richards would have a child by the name of Franklin Richards.
Franklin would become one of themost powerful entities in the Marvel universe, having powers that could warp reality itself. In one instance, he was even able to restore not just his own universe, but the entire multiverse after being completely destroyed.

4Legion
Son Of Xavier
Legion has many mutants in one; the son of Xavier, Legion exhibited a variety of different powers, bringing him up to anOmega-level mutant. He had multiple personalities, causing him to develop a different power for each one, which essentially made him a one-man legion of mutants, hence his name.
His biggest struggle would come from trying to maintain control of his powers, as his unique ability made him one of the most unpredictable mutants. At one point, all his identities would merge into one, making him more powerful than ever before.
