Summary
If you’ve been in theMinecraftmodding community for a decade or more, there are plenty of mods that just haven’t gotten their time in the sun yet. The mods that have either faded into the background or been abandoned deserve a resurgence in the newest version of Minecraft. Some of these mods have newer versions, but some of these mods would thrive again with the same upgrades, too!
Ever wanted to cast spells, visit new dimensions, or go to the moon in Minecraft? There are so many mods out there for you to choose from! Unfortunately, the version of Minecraft isn’t always consistent across the board. It’s hard to hold a modding community responsible for updating so often, but we can hope for updates to our favorites.
Budschie’s Morph Mod

If you want to live your best life as a bird or blend in with the local villager population, theMorph magic modis for you! you may collect its soul on the ground whenever you kill a mob, like withexperience orbs. You can then play as the mob, although the practicality of this kind of gameplay varies from mob to mob.
If you’replaying in survival mode, but miss the freedom of flight from creative mode,you can fly in the form of every flying mob in the game up to 1.18.2.Not to mention, whichever mob you choose,you get the benefits of that mob, like fire immunity from a blaze’s soul!
Galacticraft Legacy

Thistech modis for everyone who chose astronaut as their childhood career goal and stuck with it; the version might be significantly older, but the concept is timeless. You cancraft a spaceshipand fuel it to travel into space and to the moon (which is its own realm, like the Nether or Overworld), and like the real moon, it’s barren and rocky.
The good news is,you can build on the moon! Just make sure tobring enough blocks, or you might end up running out of fuel for a bit.Galacticraftalso has other planets available to explore and build on, so you can become the Overworld’s greatest space explorer.
Fossils and Archaeology
Who doesn’t love dinosaurs? Even though “Fossils and Archaeology” suggests past dinosaurs, you canresurrect them using DNA from discovered bones. Just make sure not to let them break free from their enclosure; we’ve all seen how that ends.
You can dig up fossils, find ancient relics and ruins, and evenfight a new villain, Anu,so finding the fossils to gather dinosaur DNA isn’t too hard, they should appear in a strip mine like any other ore. Your dinosaurs can be tamed and bred just like most farm mobs, too, so it’s the best-case scenario for explorers and anyone who’s looking to raise a herd of their favorite dinosaurs.
Draconic Evolution
This is an entiretech modgameplay upgrade in itself, with new armor, weapons, and tools to make your life easier, and not only does the gear look extremely cool, but itadds a whole new ore block: Draconium Ore. This ore,mostly found in The End, can be used to craft and power every piece of armor, tools, and machinery, and is even used in the rituals this mod introduces.
There’s always excitement around cool new gear, so it’s a shame this mod has gone somewhat underground in the past few years. Just think of all the possibilities for rituals and machines in the newest version of Minecraft!

The stars and constellations are your best friends in thismagic mod, and you’re able to use their power to make yourself stronger. The alignment of the constellations and the natural Minecraft time cycle can be used to power your rituals and other upgrades, cryptically described in yourAstral Tome, which isused to craft and keep track of all of your materials.
The main focus of this mod is the alignment of starlight to craft pieces of power rituals to protect yourself from monsters more effectively. The version doesn’t seem to be set for an update any time soon, but the amount of rituals that could be done with newer materials would be exciting to experiment with.
The Betweenlands
Theaddition of new dimensionsis always exciting to explore, and one of the most notable modded dimensions is the Betweenlands. You can choose tostart your game entirely in the Betweenlandsand build your way out from there,or build a portal there from the Overworld spawn.
Either way, endless content awaits you, especially when it comes to an entirely new Minecraft world experience; this mod is so expansive and beloved, that it’s a surprise it’s beenall but forgotten about by the developers. With countless exploration, combat, and farming possibilities, you could get lost in the Betweenlands for hours!
Thaumcraft
Thismagic modhas everything, from skill trees to new discoverable content to theThaumonomicon, which holds all the knowledge you’ll need to advance in your Minecraft magic practice. You’ll have enough new content to keep you busy for a long time, especially with thenew plants, trees, and oresthat this mod lets you work with.
You canpractice Golemancy, Alchemy, and Artificing, as well as plenty of other miscellaneous magic, just be sure toclean up your area after you generate lots of Flux energy, or you might corrupt the surrounding land. This mod has been discontinued, but there have been talks of someone picking up the port for the mod, so maybe the community will go to bat for it soon.
Forestry
Thistech modwas everything to those of us who loved new trees being added to the game with new versions. There’s beekeeping, soyou can breed and raise bees and harvest honeyfrom them, and your wood harvesting farms are about to get a huge upgrade, since in Forestry there are35 different trees, and the crafting recipes that come from them give your buildings many new looks.
These trees also yieldsix new types of fruit, which you can eat like any other food, and you canstore the saplings and fruit in crates specific to their item type.You can also store all of these new items in aForester’s Backpack, which can haveup to 45 slots.
Mystcraft
This is such a beloved, nostalgic mod for so many, and it’d be criminal not to include it, but the latest listed version,1.16.5, is incomplete,so all the nostalgia lies in previous versions. With Mystcraft, you cancreate your own custom dimensionsand write them from the ground up; there are247 unique pagesfor crafting custom biomes in your new dimensions, andsymbol portfolios to help you organize them.
There are so many possibilities for creation, especially when you discover each page has itsconnections to an existing Overworld biome or material, like Acacia Wood and Glowstone blocks. You get to choose everything you include.
Lord of the Rings Mod Legacy

This mod is one of the most famous fantasy mods in the Minecraft community, yet it doesn’t have a fully updated version anymore. However, if you’re able to load 1.7.10, this mod is so expansive it might give your computer a headache, but it’s so worth it.
You cancraft a Ring Portal to travel to the Middle-Earth dimension, where you’llspawn in the center of the Shireand be able to travel to every corner of Middle-Earth (even the dangerous ones), befriending the friendly people you come across to gain favor with their factions. With so much content to explore, and so many new mobs and buildings, you’ll never be bored!
