Summary

While we were sat waiting for long-rumored remasters of popular Zelda games to be announced during Tuesday’s Direct,Nintendohit us with a curveball. Although the seemingly finished port of Twilight Princess remains locked away, we’re getting something even better. An entirely new The Legend of Zelda game.Echoes Of Wisdomwill be here on September 26, and a note onthe upcoming game’s Japanese pagehas amiibo collectors hoping it will get its own figures.

Amiibo News notesthat the card at the foot of the Echoes Of Wisdom page features the amiibo logo in its top right corner. That’s how Nintendo denotes a game will be compatible with certain amiibo figures. From the moment fans saw Zelda and Link’s Echoes Of Wisdom designs, there was a hope that Nintendo might turn the characters into amiibo. The only problem is, Nintendo hasn’t made amiibo for a new release since the last Zelda game,Tears of the Kingdommore than a year ago.

This is by no means confirmation due to the changing exchange rate, but the price listed on Echoes Of Wisdom’s Japanese page suggests it will be a $50 Switch title.

There have been more new amiibo released since then.Xenoblade Chronicles' Noah and Mio got their one two-packearlier this year, and thenSora completed Nintendo’s Smash Ultimate amiibo collectionin February. SinceSuper Mario Bros. Wonder,Princess Peach Showtime, and none of the other big Switch games released since Tears of the Kingdom have gotten their own amiibo, there’s a belief that Sora’s figure will be the last new one released, at least until the Switch 2 but possibly ever if the figures don’t follow Nintendo to the next-gen.

Amiibo support doesn’t guarantee Echoes Of Wisdom will be getting its own figures, of course. It might just mean the new Zelda game will be compatible with old amiibo, and that tapping them to your Joy-Con will unlock various in-game bonuses. Some suggestions include certain amiibo unlocking characters from throughout Zelda history in the game, or even just statues of those characters. Zelda will have the power to summon certain items in Echoes Of Wisdom, perhaps tappingBreath of the Wild’s Mipha amiibo when playing Echoes Of Wisdom will summon an in-game Mipha statue.

We might not know for sure if Echoes Of Wisdom will get its own amiibo, but we do know itwill get its own special edition Switch. The Hyrule Edition Switch Lite was revealed alongside the game during Tuesday’s Direct and will be released on September 26, the same day as the game. Nintendo releasing another Switch design this late in the console’s life was unexpected, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility that new amiibo might join it.
