Summary

Combat is one of the major focuses inWuthering Waves, which is evident with all the endgame content based around it. Using the gacha system, you can get various four-star and five-star characters, each having their unique type and play style. Each character can only use one type of weapon as well.

Once you reach the endgame content, you’ll quickly realize how important it is to have a good DPS unit. Thankfully, you have a ton of choices and the game is balanced enough to allow you to beat everything with these characters.

Updated on Jul 07, 2025, by Sanyam Jain:When we first went to the Rinascita region in the main story of Wuthering Waves, the first character we met was Zani. She became one of the most anticipated units since then, and was finally playable during the Version 2.3 update. Thankfully, the wait was worth it since she’s one of the strongest DPS units in the game.

14Sanhua

Sanhua is arguably one of the coolest characters in Wuthering Waves both in terms of her design and personality, and the best part is thatshe’s given out for freeby simply logging into the game for five days. You can also get copies for this character by pulling on the banners where she’s featured or by getting lucky otherwise.

Whenever you use Sanhua’s Resonance Skill, Liberation, or Intro Skill, she creates an ice structure on the field. These can be detonated using her heavy attack, which deals massive damage to the surrounding enemies. She’s a phenomenal sub-DPS for your team as she also buffs a character’s Basic Attack with her Outro Skill.

13Mortefi

Mortefi might be ranked a little low on the overall DPS list, but he’sone of the most valuable charactersyou can upgrade in Wuthering Waves. He can already deal a ton of damage with his Basic Attacks, but a lot of his damage comes from the enhanced Resonance Skill, which deals damage in a huge AoE.

However, the best part about Mortefi’s kit, apart from him buffing a character’s Heavy Attack DMG, is that he can deal a ton of off-field Fusion DMG with his Resonance Liberation. During this, he launches a coordinated attack with your active character whenever their Basic or Heavy attack hits the enemy.

12Danjin

Danjin might seem like an ordinary girl on the surface that doesn’t have a lot of depth, but you’ll be thoroughly surprised when you start playing her. Even among the kits of Wuthering Waves, she has a unique mechanic of reducing her own HP to deal increased damage to the enemies.

However, she can also gain this HP back quite fast if you use her properly. The ability to sustain herself with this method and the requirement to dodge and parry attacks in the game’s combat makes her one of the few characters who can be on the battlefield by themselves and still defeat all the enemies.

11Encore

Encore is one of the standard five-star units in Wuthering Waves, which means that you can get her by selecting her banner on the Beginner’s Choice Convene. She’s an all-rounder DPSwho deals a ton of damage with her Basic Attack, special Heavy Attack, Resonance Skill, and Intro Skill.

Her Resonance Liberation, on the other hand, switches most of her abilities with an enhanced version. As long as you have good support and sustainability, Enchore can easily win all the battles you put her in. She’s also a great unit to use in the open world because of her AoE damage.

Wuthering Waves Calcharo closeup with her resonance chain in background.

10Calcharo

From one standard five-star to another, Calcharo is that one edgy five-star unit that every anime game has. Hehas the unique abilityof being able to use his Resonance Skill multiple times, which doesn’t reset his Basic Attack combo. You’re essentially supposed to alternate between pressing his Basic Attack and Skill buttons to get maximum damage output.

After getting a certain amount of stacks for his Forte bar, you can perform a special heavy attack that goes through a bunch of enemies, dealing damage. Calcharo is great at fighting both the bosses and normal mobs, but he requires a ton of resource investment.

Wuthering Waves Havoc Rover closeup with her resonance chain in background.

9Havoc Rover

Rover is the main character of Wuthering Waves, which means that everyone gets them and their entire resonance chain for free. When you first start playing the game, you’ll only have access to Spectro Rover. However, you can gain another type after beating Act Six of Huanglong’s story, which is arguably the better version

While the general gameplay remains the same, you’ll still see a lot higher damage with Havoc Rover. If you execute their combinations correctly, you’ll easily deal over 50,000 DMG once you fully build them up. With the correct supports, Havoc Rover will help you beat all the endgame content quite easily.

Wuthering Waves Jiyan closeup with her resonance chain in background.

8Jiyan

Finally, to no one’s surprise, the first limited character in Wuthering Waves is one of the best units you can have when it comes to the overall DPS. Jiyanmostly relies on his Heavy Attacksto do damage, and he’s not a character you’d want on the field for a long time, especially once you reach the late game and time is of the essence.

The play is to use as many Intro Skills on him as possible since this provides him with 30 Resolve each time, allowing you to use your Enhanced Skill and Liberation. While Jiyan is one of the best characters for endgame content like the Tower, that doesn’t mean that the rest of the characters on this list can’t get it done.

Wuthering Waves Xiangli Yao closeup with her resonance chain in background.

7Xiangli Yao

If you’re someone who plays a bunch of gacha games every day, you’ll be quite surprised to learn that Xiangli Yao was a limited five-star unit given to everyone for free during the Version 1.2 update, and he’s still this high on the DPS list. Not only does this character have some phenomenal animations, but the damage to go along with it as well.

He can deal a decent amount of damage normally, but he gets special buffs once you activate his Resonance Liberation. With the correct supports, you can easily use this unit to beat the most difficult content in the game as long as you have him built properly.

Wuthering Waves Changli closeup with her resonance chain in background.

6Changli

Released during the Version 1.1 update, Changli undoubtedly has one of the best animations and seamless play style in Wuthering Waves. Not only that, she also has a ton of details put into her design like different clothing depending on the amount of Forte stacks she has, which already makes her quite a fun character to play and explore with.

Changli is also a great choice when it comes to the general DPS in the game since her abilities will let you easily clear any of the overworld mobs without even having to switch characters. However, if you want to use her in endgame mode, she can also provide your main DPS with some great buffs like Resonance Liberation and Fusion DMG.

Wuthering Waves Yinlin closeup with her resonance chain in background.

5Yinlin

Ever since the first trailer of Wuthering Waves, Yinlin quickly became one of the most anticipated characters because of her unique design and animations. As she was released during the second phase of the launch, it quickly became clear that she’s one of the most valuable characters in the current game.

Even though Yinlin isn’t an on-field DPS, she still commands one of the top positions at the moment due to the sheer amount of damage she can deal off-field. Moreover, she can buff a character’s Electro DMG and Resonance Liberation DMG, allowing you to create dual DPS compositions.
