Summary

Racing games come in some very different categories. While some are casual games that you can easily drive around in and have fun, others test your driving skills to their limit and force you through hours of practice to progress through certain races or events.

This list will rank some of the hardest racing games ever made. All of these titles have some sort of specific feature that makes them so tough to play, from incredibly complex driving mechanics to extremely tough tracks or really tough AI opponents.

9Richard Burns Rally

Although it may be one of the oldest titles on this list, Richard Burn’s Rally was a groundbreaking entry into the world of rally racing. Most rally games are known for their high difficulty levels and this one is no exception, with itsextremely realistic and tough driving mechanics.

The difficult nature of the tracks combined with the realistic mechanicsmake it an extremely challenging game for newer racers, but the learning curve is great to experience. The large number of crashes you will endure makes it an enjoyable yet rage-inducing experience.

8Assetto Corsa Competizione

Assetto Corsa Competizione is one of the best racing sims ever made, and it’s no surprise that it can be very tough to play. As with any realistic racing simulator, you will have to learn a lot about the intricate details of driving these carsif you don’t want to spin out at every turn.

The realistic physics of this game makes it very different from other racing games, and you will need to keep this in mind alongside learning the difficult mechanics. You will also need to verify your racing setup is up to the mark and is tuned accordingly for the circuit.

7Split/Second

Split/Second is probably the most fun game on this list for any casual racer, but it also comes with several tough aspects of its own. One of the main problems people had with this game isits rubber-banding AI opponents, which makes it almost impossible to win many racesunless you are amazingly good.

While the starting few races won’t be too much of a challenge, as you get through the levels, it will start to test your racing skills a lot, and you will have to be on the top of your game to finish some survival and airstrike events at first.

6TrackMania

TrackMania also has quitesimple driving mechanics, but it’s the extremely tough tracks that make it so challenging. Some of these custom-made map

aresolely designed to make players rageas much as possible, and we wouldn’t recommend checking them out unless you’re a fan of grinding through the same track for hours just to finish it once.

Apart fromthese challenging maps, the ranked mode can also be quite hard to compete in TrackMania. However, it’s still a lot of fun if you want an arcadey yet great driving game.

5Trials Fusion

Speaking of extremely tough maps, Trials might be the most rage-inducing racing game we have ever experienced. The custom-made as well as some of the original maps here are horrible to deal with, andyou will constantly find yourself flipping over or struggling to get past certain points in a race, just hoping that someone else will finish and put you out of your misery.

Playing this game with friends is definitely recommended as it slightly lessens your pain when you have other players struggling with you as well.

4iRacing

As expected from any intricate racing simulator, iRacing does a brilliant job of replicating the real-life racing experience, which is, unsurprisingly, very difficult. You may even struggle to drive around an empty track by yourselfand getting around corners and sharp turns is something you will struggle with for days unless you have prior simulator experience.

Trial and error will be a big part of the process of improvement, and you might just have to watch some YouTube tutorials if you want to get better at this game.

3TT Isle Of Man: Ride On The Edge 3

The TT Isle of Man series is one of thefew motorcycle racing gamesthat emphasize extreme precision and handling. You will soon realize that riding a bike isn’t as easy as it seems, and you won’t be able to take turns at high speeds or just speed past your opponents unless you know what you are doing.

From the typical races to time trials, everything will be a challenge due to its high learning curve. Once you get used to it, the thrill of speeding along on your racing bike is unlike anything else.

2Midnight Club II

Developed by Rockstar Games, Midnight Club II is nowhere near as complex as some of the other racing games on this list, but it can still be so frustrating to play. The driving iseasy to learn, but it is very complex to masterdue to its tough handling and steering.

You get to race across various cities against the challenging AI, which can be very tough to deal with, especially on the hardest difficulties. The last level for each city consists of a one-on-one race against the city’s top driver, which will require hundreds of tries if you’re not good enough.

1F-Zero GX

F-Zero GX is one of the most iconic racing games ever, and this entry is the hardest in the series. Its story mode is almost impossible to complete, and most players struggle even to complete half of the races, especially at higher difficulties.

The Time Attack modes featured are some of the most challenging races we have ever experienced, and the arcadey nature somehow causes you to rage even more as you fail over and over again.
