Summary
In most games, players strive to get the best possible ending. This means that everything falls into place, even if it can be bittersweet. Some games will give you a simple game over to let you know that you failed. In other cases, the game will go above and beyond, showing you the consequences of your loss.
Luckily, bad endings don’t always leave you sad or disturbed; they can also turn out to be silly or unintentionally goofy, even with the hero losing. Here are the ten funniest bad endings where you lose, but at least it’s amusing to watch.

10Banjo Kazooie
Beautiful Witch
InBanjo Kazooi, Gruntilda is a witch who kidnaps Banjo’s younger sister, Tooty. She does this in an attempt to steal her beauty for herself, which prompts Banjo and his best bird friend Kazooi to go after her and save the day.
However, if you fail in your quest, players are punished with a bad ending that’s more goofy than sad, as Gruntilda succeeds in making a beauty-snatching machine. She uses it to become beautiful while Tooty becomes witchlike and becomes mad at her brother, so it looks like it’s a good ending for Gruntilda.

9Pikmin
Olimar Becomes A Pikmin
Pikminis an adventure where you play as Olimar, a space-faring captain who finds himself stranded on a strange planet. With the help of the native Pikmin, Olimar must find a way to repair his ship and escape the planet, but if you fail to escape the planet in time, Olimar will die.
He doesn’t stay dead for long though, as he is taken by the Pikmin and seemingly transformed into one of them. Is Olimar truly dead or will he simply be stuck in the soil until someone else plucks him out?

8Spiderman Vs The Kingpin
A Funny Delivery
Spider-Manhas had his fair share of games, and long before the days of Spider-Man onPlayStation 4, there was Spider-Man vs. Kingpinon Sega CD. The final boss for this game had Spider-Man fighting Kingpin while Mary Jane dangles helplessly over a vat of acid.
If they were too slow to save her, in she goes, but this doesn’t just give you a simple game over, instead, you get a full cutscene where Kingpin swears to be released within the same day. The delivery is hilarious despite the context.

7Bugsnax
You Are What You Eat
The twist ending forBugsnaxmay come as a shocking revelation. You are what you eat, and the Bugsnax are secretly parasites that cause anyone who ingests too many of them to permanently become food themselves.
If you fail at making every character’s lives better or feed them too many Bugsnax, the finale of the game will have every member of the camp slowly turn to food before crumbling away. This would be so sad if it didn’t look so funny.

6Tomb Raider Anniversary
The Golden Touch
Tomb Raideris full of many unique death animations. You can get eaten by a T-rex or crushed by traps, and one death, in particular, takes the cake when Lara Croft steps on the hand of Midas.
The old legends say that the king had a special touch that turned any object, living or dead, into solid gold. If players jump onto the hand, Lara Croft will slowly start turning into gold before toppling over, and in this ending, Lara becomes one of the treasures hidden deep within the jungles.

5Wario Land
Hope You Made Enough Cash
The Wario Land Series rewards players for being greedy and finishing the game with as many treasures and coins as possible. During the final battle, Wario fights a genie who then offers Wario a chance to finally get his own castle.
However, his power is dependent on how much money you collect throughout the game. In the best possible ending, Wario gets a massive castle which is better than Mario’s, but if he barely scrapes by, Wario gets a new house… too bad it’s a birdhouse.

4Wario Land 4
A Princess And The Frog Situation
Wario Land 4 was released for theGame Boy Advancebringing Wario to a whole new generation of handhelds. Like theprevious Wario games, collecting treasure will unlock different endings depending on just how many you find, and in Wario Land 4 you are guided by a cat named Kuro Neko.
Depending on which ending you get, Kuro Neko will transform into a princess and kiss Wario for all his hard work. In the worst possible endings, Kuro Neko takes the form of a Wario-like princess or a small gremlin child. Both leave Wario visibly awkward.

3Luigi’s Mansion
Rags To Riches
Mario’sbrother Luigi finally got a spinoff during theGameCubeera inLuigi’s Mansion; it was Luigi’s turn to rescue Mario after he was captured by the many ghosts that haunt the mansion. As Luigi sucks his way through bodybuilder apparitions and old man ghosts, he can also find wads of cash lying around.
Once Luigi has saved Mario, the haunted mansion will disappear and be replaced with a new mansion for Luigi. However, if Luigi doesn’t collect enough cash, all he gets is a small green tent. Ouch.

2The Outer Worlds
Worst Decision Ever
The Outer Worldsis the spiritual successor toFallout New Vegas, or at least it tried to be. Like any RPG, you get some stats at the start of the game, and if you set your intelligence to “below average” you can unlock a series of dumb dialogue options.
One of these options appears when it is time to save the colonists; go up to the ship’s controls, access the ADA and you’ll get an option to take the controls yourself. Doing this will cause you to jump directly into the sun, and you’ll even get shown the credits signifying that the game is over.

1Sonic The Hedgehog 2
Saving Tails Was A Bonus?
InSonic The Hedgehog 2Tails is kidnapped by the evil Dr. Robotnik, and to get him back at the end of the game you need to collect all the chaos emeralds to set him free. And even though that’s the happy ending you would expect from a Sonic game, if you fail to do this Tails will remain missing
As Sonic runs through the credits he eventually stops and stares at the stars, in the night sky, the afterimage of Tails can be seen in a somewhat somber ending. This ending is sad until you take into account how much Sonic finds Tails annoying in some comics, so beating Robotnik and losing Tails might just be a bonus after all.
