Scylla was originally featured in Godzilla: King of the Monsters as one of the Titans awoken by King Ghidora. With a crablike appearance and tentacles coming out of her face, Scylla has all the makings of a great monster design.

Scylla has targeted multiple nuclear sites to consume warheads and gain more nuclear energy to power up. To challenge Godzilla for the title of Alpha, her plan was soon put to a stop when Godzilla stepped in during New Empire to finish her off.

A Rival For Kong

Skar King is one of the most ruthless enemies in the entire Godzilla franchise. He sits on a throne made up of the bones of his adversaries and even kills any other member of his clan who tries to step up to him, so he is the perfect antithesis to Kong’s more benevolent nature.

While he originally appeared to be just another giant ape, his personality and weaponry make him a cool entry into the Monsterverse. He wields a terrifying bone whip and rides Shimo into battle like a frozen steed.

Deep in the Hollow Earth, the ice-breathing dragon named Shimo is locked away in chains. Covered in white scales and icy blue plates, Shimo has the ability to freeze other monsters in place, including getting one over Godzilla himself.

Shimo is kept under Skar King’s control through a crystal connected to her essence. Her powers are so great, she is known to have caused the first ice age, and after Skar King’s defeat, Shimo returns to Hollow Earth under the care of Kong.

A Deadly Infestation

The Skull Crawler population resides entirely on Skull Island. With a demonic skull-like faceplate and a lizard’s body, Skull Crawlers are known to be vicious and even responsible for the death of Kong’s family.

After being awoken in the 60s and failing to battle Kong, the remaining Skull Crawlers would once again awaken during King Ghidora’s call, only to be held back once more. Eventually, some Skull Crawlers are captured and used as test subjects to battle against a newly built Mechagodzilla.

The Mutos were the first enemiesintroduced in Godzilla (2014). Ancient insect-like Titans, they hatched and remained contained until, eventually, the mating season came around; while the monsters may be hard to see in the first film, they prove to be worthy adversaries for Godzilla.

Capable of mass reproduction, flight, and working together as a team, the Muto’s most defining characteristic is their glowing red eyes that stand out in the dark. Mutos would continue to appear in supplementary material such as comics and novels.

Mothra has always been a fan-favorite monster in the Godzilla franchise; playing the role of humanity’s protector, Mothra defends the Earth and acts as a mediator between monsters such as Kong or Godzilla. Her ability to reincarnate after death essentially makes her immortal.

In the Monsterverse, Mothra’s relationship with Godzilla is made more explicit, and rather than just aiding when humanity needs it, it is established that Godzilla’s species and Mothra’s go way back to ancient times. Now reunited in Godzilla: The New Empire, they are ready to take on future threats together.

An Original Monster

Behemoth is one of the Monsterverse’s original Titan designs. He resembles a wooly mammoth and holds dominion over the Amazon. Like other Titans, Behemoth was awoken from his slumber during King Ghidora’s call; eventually, he would bow before Godzilla, accepting him as the new Alpha.

Wherever Behemoth walks, he causes vegetation to grow, and he is also one of the few monsters to have Mammalian traits. Behemoth, like Godzilla and Kong, is one of the few monsters transported to the DC universe during the crossover that pits the Monsterverse against the Justice League.

Reinventing A Classic

The original King Kong fell in love with a human woman before getting shot down on top of the Empire State Building. Since Kong has been rewritten by Peter Jackson and finally as a Titan in the Monsterverse.

Kong’s story arc is excellent, going from an orphan ape on Skull Island to ruling over his own kind. Kong’s more fleshed-out story is also supplemented with new weapons to make him a match against other Titans, such as his axe made out of a Godzilla dorsal plate.

Small Changes, Big Impact

King Ghidora received one of the biggest glow-ups for the Monsterverse. His introduction is already legendary when he is found trapped inside a block of ice in site zero, and after waking up, it’s instantly apparent that King Ghidora is not of this world as his powers cause a storm capable of destroying the planet.

This version of King Ghidora is also capable of regenerating lost heads; unlike his Toho counterpart, he uses his wings as additional appendages to move around. This gives the Monsterverse version a distinct appearance despite shared traits.
