There are a handful of passive keyword abilities cards can have inDisney’s Lorcana. These are abilities not unique to a specific character but can be shared by many different loveable Disney heroes, villains, allies, and so on. One of these abilities is Ward, which keeps characters safe from being targeted by Items, Actions, and Songs your opponents control.

But not all Ward cards are created equal. Although it’s a strong ability to have, other factors start to let other characters outshine one another. So, when crafting your own deck, which Ward cards are going to benefit you the most? Or halt your opponents from pulling ahead of you?

Kit Cloudkicker, Spunky Bear Cub Disney Lorcana Card

This list ranks Ward cards based on their power and utility.

10Kit Cloudkicker, Spunky Bear Cub

More Bark Than Bite

On the surface, Kit’s Spunky Bear Cub variant doesn’t look like a strong card, but it’s both thanks to Ward and another card of the same name that helps this zero strength, one willpower card. Another big factor is how much this Kit Cloudkicker costs to play.

Because you only need one ink to play him, you can have him out on your first turn. Then, if you keep him on the field thanks to Ward, Kit’s Navigator card can be shifted on top of this one, allowing you to bring a cost six card onto the field as early as turn three and rack up a good amount of lore.

Wendy Darling, Authority On Peter Pan Disney Lorcana Card

9Wendy Darling, Authority On Peter Pan

I Do Believe In Ward, I Do, I Do!

Thanks to Ward, you can decide when you do and don’t quest with Wendy as her willpower of one leaves her vulnerable. Jetsam, Riffraff Disney Lorcana Card

8Jetsam, Riffraff

Two Eels In A Pod

This is a character that has a lot of synergy. There are two versions of Jetsam, and two versions of Flotsam. This dynamic duo from The Little Mermaid aid each other if they are both on the board at the same time.

This particular card can give any Flotsam the Ward ability. In return, they can gain three strength from Flotsam, Riffraff,Rushfrom Flotsam, Ursula’s Spy, or both if you happen to be using both versions. This can turn this fairly plain card into a sea monster real quick.

aladdin prince ali full card lorcana

7Aladdin, Prince Ali

Fabulous, He!

While becoming the center of attention in his Prince attire, this Aladdin benefits from Ward, keeping him safe unless he’s being challenged directly. His favorite number is two, seeing as how he costs two, and has a strength and willpower of two.

This makes him pretty balanced as, in the early game, it can be difficult to get rid of him by challenges alone. But depending on what color cards make up your deck, he can become a secret weapon that allows you to shift a stronger Aladdin, Heroic Outlaw, on top of this one, which can give you lore while taking it away from your opponents.

bucky lorcana card by alex accorsi

6Bucky, Squirrel Squeak Tutor

Mother Squeaker, Dude

Bucky is a low-cost character that can be very hard to deal with, which is good news for you. This is purely thanks to his Ward ability as his strength and willpower are only one.

Despite having such low stats, it’s Bucky’s Squeak ability that can help you force enemies into awkward situations. When you play aFloodborncharacter, you and your opponent choose and discard a card. If you time this well, you won’t lose anything important, but an enemy may have to get rid of their only card, or choose one of only a few options.

Kit Cloudkicker - Navigator Lorcana Card

5Kit Cloudkicker, Navigator

More Lore Than Bite

This name should look familiar. Kit’s Navigator version is a Floodborn character that can be brought in as early as turn three. His strength of two isn’t much to shout about, but his willpower of five will be difficult for other cost three or four characters to deal with if you may bring him into the game early.

And, thanks to Ward, the only way your opponent can try and get rid of him is through challenges. Until they can hit him with enough characters, Kit can quest for three lore each turn, allowing you to quickly race ahead in lore. If you pair them with any Bodyguard cards, it will take your enemy even longer to banish him, gaining you even more lore.

kuzco, te

4Kuzco, Temperamental Emperor

No, You Still Can’t Touch Him

Kuzco, from Disney’sThe Emperor’s New Groove, can cause your opponent to deal with some very uncomfortable situations when it comes to the decisions they’ll have to make. That’s not just because of his Ward ability either.

He also has an ability called No Touchy! This makes it so that whatever character banishes Kuzco will be banished as well. If they don’t have a character they want to lose currently, then you can keep questing for three lore each turn.

Audrey Ramirez, the Engineer

3Audrey Ramirez, The Engineer

Two Lore For Flinching

Audrey costs five ink to play and has five willpower. On the other side of the equation, she has two strength and can gain two lore when you quest with her. But her second ability also activates when she quests.

Spare Parts allows you to ready an item of yours whenever Audrey quests. So, not only can you use an item you have at your disposal more than once, but she is also protected from Items thanks to Ward. The duality of this card makes the teenager a strong addition to anySapphire deck.

lorcana card cogsworth grandfather clock by isaiah mesq-1

2Cogsworth, Grandfather Clock

Getting Stronger With The Ticking Of This Clock

Although Cogsworth costs five ink to play, he is a Floodborn character that can be brought onto the field in turn three. Along with this character having Ward, his Unwind ability also gives all of the other characters on your side of the field Resist +1.

So, not only can this help your characters stay in the game for longer, but you can also quest with him for two lore per turn. Though, if you don’t quest with him, your enemy won’t really have a way to deal with that pesky Resist.

Disney Lorcana: Prince John, Greediest of All card

1Prince John, Greediest of All

Greedy For These Cards

Card draw can be one of the most powerful tools in your deck. And Prince John is no exception. They cost three to play and can’t be inked. His strength and willpower aren’t the most impressive, but Ward keeps this character in so that he can keep using his ability, I Sentence You.

Anytime your opponent discards any number of cards, you draw that same number for yourself. This can quickly shift things in your favor because you’re able to get your most helpful cards into your hand and onto your field as soon as possible.
