The long-awaited Steam Version ofKingdom Heartsis finally here! With the release, you know the modding community is going into overdrive to bring the best, newest, traditional mods to the game with quickness. With the game still being so new, some of the more experimental mods you’ve been looking at are still being developed. A little patience is required.

In the meantime, how about taking a look at what the community has made active and available right at launch while you wait? It may not be the Final Fantasy mod you’ve been waiting for, but there’s bound to be something here for you to add to your fun.

Kingdom Hearts 2

Previously, the games had only been available on theEpic Games Store, so everything made up until now has been made specifically for those games using the Lua backend. This would be fine, except the newer version of the game isn’t necessarily compatible with it. So, if you’re impatient and don’t want to wait, this one should make those compatible with the current Steam version.

Once you get this squared away, you’veahemopened the door with the key of creativity that allows you to create whatever changes you want to make to the vanilla games. Want to make Sora into Cloud instead? You can do that. How about making all enemies simple heartless? Sure, if that’s what you want to do! The only limit is your imagination and your Lua skills.

KHPC Patch Manager by Antonio DePau

6KHPCPatchManager

All Kingdom Hearts Games On Steam

If you are having issues with any bugs or out-of date versions of the games, then look no further than the KHPCPatchManager to assist you in all of your broken game needs. The mod guides you on how to fix bugs, add features you want to play around with, or change entire gameplay elements with surprising ease.

Sounds too easy, right? Well, that’s because it is. Once you find and download the tool, all you have to do is grab whichever mod or patch you want to implement, and the manager does all the heavy lifting for you. As with most tools, just keep it up to date and in working order, and it should make your gameplay experience nice and smooth.

KH2FM Toolkit by GovanifY

Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix

Here, you can change anything about Kingdom Hearts 2’s iconic UI (though, why would you want to?) or any other visuals or assets you’d want to change from the vanilla version. Though, with Squaredropping a day one patch updating the vanilla graphics, you may want to hold off and save space for other mods or tools.

Still, it’s nice to have the option there should you want to make the game look more like the more simplistic Kingdom Hearts 1, or you can update it to maybe imitate Kingdom Hearts 3, if that’s more your speed. Better still, if you want to forgo the Kingdom Hearts look altogether and make it look like an entirely different game, this mod will let you do that.

Kingdom Hearts Re Chain Of Memories with Sora inside of a peaceful room

4KHReCOM Editor

Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain Of Memories

There may be a few folks who enjoy playing Chain of Memories in its default state, but let’s face it: it contains some of the most frustrating design choices of the whole series. Needing cards to progress to new rooms and, thereby, the story? Come on! Who has time for that anymore?

This editor allows you to change up the card decks tomake you overpowered if you want, change how you progress (goodbye locked doors), or mess around with the enemies’ stats to make them as easy or as difficult as you want. You’ll have your own personal, card-based sandbox to play around in.

Sephiroth Wearing Mickey Ears - Kingdom Hearts 2

3KH2 Voice Swap

Picture this: you’re winding up the pathway to meet Sephiroth, standing on a cliff, looking down below, searching for Cloud. Sora walks up, and the first thing you hear coming from the silver-haired menace is Mickey Mouse’s voice. It completely takes you out of the scene and is probably the most brilliant thing you could possibly do.

This Mod allows you to switch out voices from one character to the other with relative ease. Though technically, you could input other voices from outside the game. You’d have to ensure that it fits the game’s file type and bitrate. The world’s voice is your oyster.

The Keyblade Graveyard which shows countless keyblades from Union X

2KHUX Keyblade Importer

Various Kingdom Hearts Games

Perhaps you favor some keyblades from the mobile game Kingdom Hearts Union X, but they are left out of the original main games. Well, with this Keyblade Importer, you can bring original keyblades from the mobile game in all their fully 3D-rendered glory. Nothing like swinging on Heartless and Nobodies with a Moogle O’ Glory.

Keep in mind, however, that the mod only gives you the visual aspect of the Union X keyblades. So, if you’re looking for the magic stat boosts from Fairy Stars, you’re better off sticking to the blades that come default with the game. All looks, but no stats, sadly.

Roxas and Volcanic Lord fighting in the tutorial of Kingdom hearts 2

1KH2 Randomizer

Here we are! This mod is one of the most popular mods you can get, and with good reason! This is the mod equivalent of throwing everything and the kitchen sink into a bag, reaching in, and seeing what you’ll get, but without the mess! Well, maybe with a little mess.

Everything is on the table when you boot it up: bosses might become regular enemies, plain heartless will be the bosses, and you may have to fight your friends just because the mod decides you should. You truly never know what you’re going to get, but that’s the best part!
