This list was chosen based on quotes that exemplify Karlach’s character and her journey throughout Baldur’s Gate 3. From fun moments to pivotal story scenes, we’ve chosen quotes that encompass her personality and storyline.

This list contains spoilers for Karlach’s storyline.

There’s nothing quite like seeing the greatest Wizard of all time and assuming it’s your friend’s grandfather. Her reaction to his entrance at least lightens the mood a little. After all, Elminster’s entrance doesn’t bring good news, so at least Karlach’s there to keep things light.

Of course, no one’s disputing the claim that Elminster is Gale’s grandad. Karlach’s pure and genuine response to the Wizard’s arrival shows how happily she views the world. It’s impossible to dwell on the dull parts of the game with such a bright companion by your side.

7“Stick Close To Mama K”

Thegloom of the Shadow Landsis vastly different from the wilderness' warm welcome in Act One. Even Karlach, a being built to survive the flames of Avernus, recognises the coldness of the cursed lands.

There’s nothing more reassuring than being comforted by said person. Karlach’s promise to keep you safe in such dangerous environments is the best thing you could hear. Sticking close to the Teifling should be no problem when you’re traveling into the unknown, especially when she’s the direct antithesis of the cold, cursed place.

6“I Wanna Ride You ‘Til You See Stars”

Karlach isn’t one to hide away from using vulgar or explicit language, nor is she one to sugarcoat anything.Pursuing a romance with any charactermay potentially get intimate eventually, but there’s something hilarious about how suddenly Karlach speaks about it.

You have many moments to experiment with how much physical contact you’re able to take with Karlach’s heart problems. There are many highs and lows through that specific quest, but her grace in the situation makes it bearable. It’s reassuring to know that she’s not afraid to speak up about her desires, even with the little chance of it happening.

5“Avernus Was Never My Home”

Many companions in Baldur’s Gate 3 struggle through the journey of finding a home. Karlach seems to be certain about where she wants to be and where she does not. Avernus wasn’t the greatest place for her, so it’s no surprise that she’s unhappy when it’s mentioned.

Karlach mentions many times in the game that she misses Baldur’s Gate. After a decade in the hells, it would be nice to see her reaction when arriving back home. Even after all the time away, it’s nice to know that Karlach still holds the city close to her heart.

4“Thanks For Listening. For Existing. Love you.”

Karlach is very openly loving to all her companions, whether they reciprocate it or not. It’s emotional to hear such a simple declaration after having a huge breakdown, but it somehow makes it more powerful.

This quote proves how much simply listening and being there for someone can make a difference. Since you’re not any closer to finding a solution for Karlach’s burning engine, it’s nice to know that she still loves you. It’s a good reminder that not everything can be fixed, but it doesn’t mean people should turn away from each other.

3“Will You Stay With Me?”

After Karlach has taken time to think about Gortash’s death, she seems a little more prepared for what’s ahead. She isn’t, however, prepared to do it on her own. It takes a lot of strength to ask someone for help and Karlach shows it here.

Facing the end might seem impossible, but it’s much more bearable with someone by your side. If you didn’t love Karlach before, you surely should now. It’s hard to come across a character so genuine and pure, which makes it harder to accepther possible end.

2“Better Let These F***ers Know I’m Back. And This Time, I’m Not Alone.”

Karlach is a force to be reckoned with, no matter where she is. She frequently tells tales of her time in Avernus during the war and the battles she fought. Throughout your journey through Faerûn, she’s one of the most fearsome companions to have as company.

So, what’s more terrifying than the best soldier returning to Avernus? When she doesn’t return alone. Of course, Karlach would rather be anywhere other than the fiery pits of Avernus, but maybe it’s easier with someone by her side.

1“Goodbye, Sun. Goodbye, Sea. Goodbye.”

Ah, yes. That’s the sound of everyone’s heartbreaking. Karlach’s end is well known from the very beginning when you find her set aflame in Act One. From there, your journey with her is both emotional and delightful.

Meeting new characters, fighting powerful enemies, and uncovering the truth behind your tadpoles is much more amusing with Karlach by your side. Her departing words to the world she loves are heartbreaking. It’s hard saying goodbye to a character you’ve grown to love, and when they’re as genuine as Karlach, it’s not any easier.
