Summary

If you’re a free-to-play or low-spending player inHonkai: Star Rail, getting a five-star limited character to Eidolon Six is out of the question unless you save for months just to pull on one banner. However, getting such high Eidolons becomes a lot more feasible when it comes to the four-star units.

This is mainly because you can acquire four stars even when they’re not featured on a banner. Moreover, certain limited-time events in the game can also provide you with a free four-star or a choice to choose one among many.

Honkai Star Rail Qingque Splash and Menu

Combat type

Quantum

While the actual gacha currency might be limited in Honkai: Star Rail, that shouldn’t stop you from using this mechanic, even in combat. Qingque is one of the most fun characters in the game as she allows you to essentially roll a dice every time she gets a turn.

However, her value and damage output increase quite a lot with Eidolons, making her less funny and more scary. Her fourth Eidolon is by far the best in it, as it doubles the damage dealt by her normal or enhanced basic attacks if you get lucky. Certain support characters and light cones have also made her a lot more viable over time.

Honkai Star Rail Sampo Splash and Menu

Wind

From the very beginning, Sampo’s position in the meta has been quite a roller coaster. He was considered as one of the best units during the early game, but his ranks slowly dwindled down untilthe release of Kafka, who brought every DoT character back into the picture.

However, if you have this character on Eidolon Six, you might not need Kafka for him to be viable. His fourth Eidolon lets him deal instant DoT damage if he attacks an enemy with over five Wind Shear stacks, which lets you see some staggering numbers if you build him on Break Effect and break the enemy’s Toughness with him.

Fire

Fromone DoT character to another, but not for a similar reason. Guinaifen might be great at applying Burn on the enemies and dealing massive damage if she’s built on Break Effect, but one of the most outshining parts about her kit is the Talent, which involves an effect called Firekiss.

An enemy gets applied with this effect whenever they take Burn DMG, and it increases their overall DMG taken by any source. Once she’s on Eidolon Six and has her Talent upgraded fully, this increased DMG effect can stack over 30 percent.

Honkai Star Rail Tingyun Splash Art and Menu

Lightning

Tingyun is already one of the best four-star characters you may have on your account, even at zero Eidolons. However, she easily reaches the level of various five-star Harmony characters at Eidolon Six in certain situations. With just the first two eidolons, she can provide significantly higher buffs to the target ally.

However, when you get the last one, the Energy provided by her Ultimate increases by ten. While this might not sound like much, it can be the difference between your ally getting their Ultimate or having to wait an extra turn for it.

While Xueyi can already deal a staggering amount of damage with her follow-up attack and Ultimate, she unlocks a new potential when you get some of her Eidolons. This doesn’t necessarily rely on her own damage, but buffs the overall damage of the team specifically when she’s usedalongside Harmony Trailblazer, another free unit.

If you fully build her on Break Effect, with the extra Break Effect from her fourth Eidolon, you’ll easily see over 100,000 single-target damage with Trailblazer. However, she’s still great even by herself because of the increase in follow-up DMG and the said attack being able to deplete enemy Toughness even if they don’t have Quantum Weakness.

Honkai Star Rail Luka Art Splash and Menu

Physical

Even though he was initially predicted as Kafka’s support who wouldn’t be nearly as good without her, Luka proved everyone wrong, especially with some of his Eidolons. While most of these eidolons buff him decently, the main effect you’re looking for comes with Eidolon Six.

This lets you deal a bit of Bleed DoT damage whenever you use your enhanced basic attack. This might not be much if you rely on normal Bleed, but it can be destructive if you build him with a ton of Break Effect and break an enemy’s Weakness with this attack.

Honkai Star Rail Gallagher menu art with splash art over the top

It might be a little surprising to see a sustainer on this list considering the amount of phenomenal five-star sustainers currently in the game, but the main reason for Gallagher to be here isn’t his ability to keep the team alive. Instead, this is another unit that works well when paired with Harmony Trailblazer.

After using his Ultimate, Gallagher gets an enhanced basic attack that enjoys a higher Break Effect. With certain Eidolons, he gets even more Break Effect and even some Weakness Break Efficiency. On top of all this, he can generally increase the Break DMG taken by enemies, making him the perfect fit.
