Summary
What is a Consumable? You might think you know the answer to that question, but inElden Ring, it isn’t as obvious as you might expect. The list covers craftable items, items you can refill over and over again, and items that disappear forever if you use them.
They range dramatically in both their usefulness and how easy it is to obtain them, with some requiring you to jump through some truly absurd hoops before they become accessible. However, that doesn’t mean they aren’t worth the effort. Let’s take a look at which of these items you should invest your time and resources into.

No
Location
Can be bought from the Nomadic Merchant on the eastern side of the Weeping Peninsula for 60 Runes
There are pros and cons toevery throwing knife variantin Elden Ring, but if you’re looking for pure damage, theKukriwill be your best friend. With an A scaling with Strength and S with Dexterity, it can hit like a truck and cause deal Bleed buildup on top of that.

The only downside to them is that they are quite slow, making them much better for opening fights or taking advantage of pauses in attack chains than weaving in among your other strikes. Put another way, the Kukri is more akin to a sniper rifle than a machine gun.
Requires the Glintstone Craftsman’s Cookbook [6], found in Caria Manor
Unlike most of the Pot items in Elden Ring, Freezing Pots don’t scale with any stat. However, the base buildup allows you to inflict Frostbite instantly on most enemies, including some bosses.
That allows you to take advantage of Frostbite shredding their damage resistances, but the status effect triggers also a massive burst of damage that can interrupt certain attacks, most notably knocking Malenia out of Waterfowl Dance if you time it right. And with basically no requirements for it to be effective, Freezing Pots can fit easily into any build.

Yes
Requires the Fevor’s Cookbook [1], found in a graveyard south of Summonwater Village
Do you hate the Godskin Duo? Don’t worry; so does everyone else. Fortunately, Sleep Pots can trivialize this fight, as the Godskin Noble and Apostle are extremely weak to the status effect, as are several other enemy types such as Magma Wyrms.

The item’s usefulness outside of these encounters will vary significantly, as many enemies are either totally immune to Sleep or are merely temporarily stunned by it. However, the Sleep Pots’ effectiveness against one of the Lands Between’s most frustrating bosses earns them a spot on this list.
Requires the Perfumer’s Cookbook [2], found in the Shaded Castle

Are you the sort of person who likes living life on the edge? Well, theBloodboil Aromaticis for you. It increases your Physical damage by an absurd amount and your Stamina by nearly as much, providing a huge boost to Strength and Dexterity-based builds.
However, those benefits come at the significant cost of massively reducing your damage resistance. That means you’ll be putting yourself at risk by using this perfume, but that won’t matter too much as you’re mowing down every enemy in your path.

The Bloodboil Aromatic doesn’t work with any elemental damage, so most spells and even quite a few weapons won’t synergize with it all that well.
Purchased from Blackguard Big Boggart
When you first meet Blackguard Big Boggart in Liurnia of the Lakes, he’ll be selling Boiled Prawn; that’s already a solid item, providing you with a strong defensive boost against physical damage. It might have made this list if not for the fact that once Boggart moves to the moat outside Leyndell, he’ll start sellingBoiled Crab, which is strictly better.
It’s arguably one of the best defensive buffs in the game, so you’ll need other options if you are trying to protect yourself from spells, but there’s nothing better for blocking physical damage. Be careful, though; if you kill Boggart when you first meet him, you’ll never be able to buy his delicious crabs.

All across the Lands Between, but can be farmed from Giant Rats
Rune Arcs are an exceptionally critical item you don’t think much of until you run out of them. On their own, they do nothing but give you a small HP boost; however, the Great Runes they activate can have dramatic effects, ranging from increasing your statistics by huge amounts to healing you whenever you kill an enemy.

If you want those effects, you’ll need a Rune Arc, and each time you die, you’ll need another one. As such, it’s best to make sure you keep yourself well-stocked.
All across the Lands Between
In some ways, consumable Runes are completely useless. After all, you may get through the entire game without using them, and gain all the levels you need simply by defeating enemies.
That said, finding those extra Runes, especially the larger ones, can smooth out the process, with the largest variants giving you enough Runes for entire levels up until you start nearing level 100. That can give you the boost you need to take on the tough challenges Elden Ring presents you with.

Specific Remembrances are not included on this list, as though they can also give you Runes, their main purpose is to give you access to unique weapons.
Acquired after reaching the Stranded Graveyard

The Flasks of Elden Ring aren’t consumable in a traditional sense, since they will be fully recharged any time you rest. However, you’re able to run out of them as you travel between Sites of Grace, which is presumably why the game puts them in that category.
For spell-based builds, the Flask of Cerulean Tears is arguably more important than the HP-recovery version. After all, who needs healing if every enemy you meet is turned to dustafter a few casts? It’s not just spellcasters, though; there are plenty of builds that rely primarily on Weapon Skills that will need at least a few charges of this Flask to use them.
Unless you are a no-hit speedrunner, the Flask of Crimson Tears is probably going to be your best friend. Even builds that try to stay as far away from bosses as possible will find themselves getting hit occasionally, and need some way to recover.
There are other ways to heal yourself, both inthe form of your traditional healing Incantationsandsome much stranger options, but they usually won’t be enough to fully replace your healing Flask. Though not as offensively powerful as the top item on our list, few items in the Lands Between are so universally beneficial as the Flask of Crimson Tears.
Found at the Third Church of Marika, in Limgrave
Could it be anything else? The Flask Of Wondrous Physick takes already powerful builds and injects them with the super soldier serum.
The various Crystal Tears you can put inside it can have effects that range from improving your stamina to increasing the damage of rapid-hitting builds, to temporarily removing FP costs entirely, and much more. With so many options available to you, the Flask of Wondrous Physick will be at once one of the most versatile and potent tools in any build’s arsenal.
