With the next 3D Mario likely being saved for the Switch 2, and 2D Mario covered bySuper Mario Bros. Wonderin 2023, Nintendo has been filling the gap with Mario remakes. First up wasSuper Mario RPG. Super Mario RPG on Nintendo Switch is a remake of the game with the same name, originally released on the SNES in 1996. A completely reimagined version for an entirely new generation, it includes locations and characters even some of the most experienced Mario fans will have never seen before.
Nintendo is likely selling its Mario games for less not only because the Switch is nearing the end of its run, but also because Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door hits its seven-year-old console this week. Another remake of a well-loved RPG from the plumber’s past, Thousand-Year Door will be one of, if not the last Mario game released on Switch. It all depends on what Nintendo has planned for the second half of 2024. Those plans will be revealed during an already-confirmed Nintendo Direct in June.
