Summary
An excerpt from the recently releasedStardew Valleycookbook has revealed the “real reason” behind the mystery as to why Pierre frustratingly keeps his store closed on Wednesday, and it’s not because of Joja Mart.
When it comes to characters that Stardew Valley fans absolutely loathe, you’d be hard-pressed to find someone as hated as Pierre, the owner of the town’s general store. A lot of that is down to his personality, but the fact that he keeps his store closed on a Wednesday doesn’t help all that much. It’s such a hated aspect of the man that it’s become a bit of a meme, and there’s evena whole subreddit dedicated to hating on Pierre.
If you believe Stardew Valley’s story, it’s explained that the reason why Pierre closes his shop on Wednesday is because he can’t deal with the competition from rival business Joja Mart. It turns out that this isn’t actually the case though, as the official Valley cookbook that was released earlier this month actually has a quote from Pierre’s wife Caroline revealing exactly why Pierre closes on such a strange day.
Pierre’s Shop Just Really, Really Stinks
First shared byReddit user Anothertrainreckbardto the Stardew Valley subreddit, this cookbook reveals that the real reason why Pierre closes his shop is due to the smell that Caroline makes when she’s making her favorite fish tacos. Apparently, Caroline absolutely needs to have fish tacos at least once a week, and Pierre decides to close the shop on a Wednesday as he thinks the smell would be “bad for business” otherwise.
A little bit strange considering Pierre’s shop/house is absolutely massive, and he could very easily open a window for the poor woman if it reeks that much when she’s cooking. Others have pointed out that Pierre does open his shop on Wednesday following the completion of the Joja quest line, but I guess Caroline is either forbidden from making them, or she takes her fish taco cooking elsewhere. Either way, it’s more fuel for the Pierre hate train, and I am totally on board.
