Star Wars: The Acolyteis an intriguing take on the universe. Described as a mystery thriller on the official website, the Disney+ project is an eight-episode series run by the brilliant mind behind Netflix’s Russian Doll, Leslye Headland.
The series follows Osha Aniseya, a Meknek for hire who is connected to both sides of the force in more ways than one. A prequel to the prequels, The Acolyte aims to explain a bit more of the Star Wars story, tackling periods that haven’t been addressed by any of the movies. With that being said, when exactly does it take place?

When Is The Acolyte Set?
The series is officially described as taking placea century before the events that unfold in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. The film is set in 32 BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin), which gives usa rough year of 132 BBYfor The Acolyte. No date has been specified in the series so far, but the setting gives us enough information to build upon.
132 BBY sets us right during the High Republic Era, a time of peace and prosperity in the galaxy. The Jedi Order was at its peak, with its influence spreading across the universe. Peace allowed for progress and innovation and, despite threats still being real, there was enough safety and security for most to prosper.

Will We See Returning Characters?
To put the timeline into perspective, The Acolyte takes placebefore most of the characters seen in the movies were even born, except for, of course, Master Yoda, who would be over 700 years old by this point, and Chewbacca. Count Dooku would only be born in 102 BBY, Obi-Wan Kenobi in 57 BBY, and Anakin Skywalker in 41 BBY.
So, if you’re expecting to seeany familiar facesin this series, the only one you might find isYoda’s slightly younger visage, as he was already an old Jedi Master at that point, and a respected member of the Order. Chewbacca’s appearance is less likely, as he didn’t join forces with Yoda until the Clone Wars in 22 BBY.
