Summary

A newSplatoongame could already be in the works atNintendo, being developed under the codename “Spiral”. This is according to reliable leaker Midori, who says that she’s received information suggesting that the next Splatoon sequel is in development now.

This is alongside separate rumours thatSplatoon 3will get its final Splatfest soon. While neither of these reports can be confirmed, it would make sense, as Splatoon 3’s story was guided by the results ofSplatoon 2’s final Spaltfest. With this in mind, we might have a better idea of what Splatoon 4’s story will centre around very soon.

Splatoon 4 Might Already Be In Development

Datamined findings shared earlier this week suggested that the final Splatfest is already in the works, codenamed “Sand”. This doesn’t give us a great idea of what the opposing teams will be, but if this really is the final Splatfest, then it’s very possible that they’ll be themed around ideas for Splatoon 4.

Right now, Spiral and Sand doesn’t tell us much. However, if the rumours of the sequel are true, then it certainly looks like Nintendo is looking towards the future of the series, ending its rollout of live events in Splatoon 3.

Of course, Splatoon 3 would still be available to play for the foreseeable future, just as Splatoon 2 is now. The first Splatoon game, on the other hand, went offline in Aprilalongside the Wii U and 3DS online servers.

If there is a Splatoon 4 in the works, it’s almost definitely going to launch on Nintendo’s next console. The Switch 2, as it is often referred to, isexpected to be with us sometime next year.

As we reported shortly after the servers shut down, one play managed to stay in the game by just never leaving. Well, I’m happy to report that this player, Twitter user @Lcd101, is still there. They’re on day 55 now, which is just incredible. Hopefully though, even if the Splatoon 4 rumours are true, we won’t have to start camping out in Splatoon 2 and 3 anytime soon, and the servers will be supported for some time.
