Summary
Despite being a core character inSonic the Hedgehogfor more than 20 years, it can often feel like Shadow is overlooked. Not this year. Since Shadow will be making his cinematic debut in December, andlikely be voiced by Keanu Reeves, inSonic the Hedgehog 3,Segahas been making sure as many people are familiar with Sonic’s black and red counterpart as possible. Lots of Shadow merch has been released already this year, and noweven more has hit the Sega Shopvia Sonic’s new Sakura collection.
Shadow and Amy are the stars of Sega’s Sakura range which takes the long-serving Sonic characters' and adds a splash of Japanese influence to their designs. Each character has a Sakura t-shirt, water bottle, cap, and picnic blanket, and all eight items in the collection are available to pre-order now. You won’t have long to wait either as the items will ship in July, giving you plenty of time to wear the t-shirt and cap on the picnic blanket while drinking from the water bottle long before the summer of Shadow and Amy comes to an end.
The Shadow items are black, but their Sakura twist means they’re colorful too. Splashes of pink thanks to the blossoms surrounding the hedgehog, and Shadow appears to be wearing a jacket that matches his shoes, or maybe it’s a kimono, I can’t tell. Amy’s items are naturally a lot pinker than Shadow’s despite the blossoms raining down on him. If the hat and the blanket are a little too pink, the t-shirt and water bottle feature the same Sakura Amy design on a white background instead.
Sega’s Sakura Collection Is Now Available To Pre-Order
There is a downside to this new Sonic merch drop. The collection only appears to be available via Sega’s European shop and hasn’t made it to the US site. At least not yet. As is always the case when it comes to this sort of thing, there’s always a chance items find their way onto other storefronts. Those in the US just need to rely on British and European Sonic fans buying these Sakura products in their droves to convince Sega it will make money elsewhere.
While it wasn’t Shadow-themed since he already has his own rubber duck, there was a Tubbz Sonic drop this week too. Tubbz has turned various video game characters into collectible ducks, and its Sonic collection got three characters bigger on Wednesday. Rouge, Espio, and Silver now have their very own first-edition Tubbz ducks, and all three of them are available now.
