Funko signed off 2023 byreleasing an array of new Sonic the Hedgehog Funko Popsand it has slowly kept the flow of them coming into 2024. While Shadow, Amy, and of course, Sonic have all been included in the newer Pop drops for the blue blur and his supporting cast, Tails has been suspiciously absent. Thankfully, the fox is absent no more. Not only does Sonic’s faithful sidekick finally have a new Funko Pop of his own, but it’ll be available to buy later today.
The Flying Tails figure was a part of Funko’s weekly drops which also includes a Pop modeled after the Mocking SpongeBob meme. We’re not here to talk about SpongeBob, though. We’re here to talk about Tails. The Sonic character’s new Pop comes with a transparent stand because, as the name of the figure implies, it has been designed to look like it has captured what Tails looks like mid-flight, tail spinning to keep him elevated.
The Tails Pop isn’t available at the time of publication, but will go on sale at Entertainment Earth and other smaller comic book and collectible stores at noon EST today (May 29). The figure is a part of Funko’s speciality series which just means it won’t be available through bigger storefronts such as Amazon and GameStop. There will also be a Flocked Chase variant of the Pop - a rarer version with a felt finish - but you won’t know if you’ve got one until your figure arrives.
Flying Tails Funko Pop Coming Your Way Today
Tails joins pretty much every major Sonic character to receive a new Funko Pop over the past six months. Like Tails, Funko has intentionally made some of the other recently released figures harder to find.The Shadow two-pack, for example, is exclusively available at GameStop. The two-pack includes a regular Shadow Pop as well as a Super Shadow figure. A Sonic Ring Scatter figure was also released and while it isn’t an exclusive, it does appear to be harder to find than some other recent Sonic figures.
Funko’s Sonic push is understandable considering how big of a spotlight will be shining onSega’s hedgehog and his supporting cast throughout 2024. Knuckles got his own TV show,Sonic x Shadow Generationsis coming in the fall, and the brooding counterpart to Sonic will also be making his cinematic inSonic the Hedgehog 3which, if all goes to plan, speeds into cinemas just in time for Christmas.
