Three years ago,Silent Hillcreator Keiichiro Toyamaannounced a brand new spiritual successorto the classic survival horror seriesat The Game Awardscalled Slitterhead, developed by the independent Bokeh Game Studio.
We haven’t heard much about it since its reveal, but now, a new trailer finally gives us another look at the intriguing horror title. Here, we get a good idea of what the gameplay will entail, as the player swaps between controlling different NPCs, using them to fight off horrific monsters.
Most importantly, we have a release date: June 20, 2025. Alongside this reveal, we also get a confirmation of what platforms Slitterhead will be available on, with the trailer listing PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. Xbox One was not mentioned, so it’s possible that it’s skipping this last-gen console, while still making it onto PS4.
Akira Yamaoka, the famed composer behind Silent Hill, is back alongside Toyama for this new game.
As for the gameplay, the tone is very similar to what we’ve seen already. In the original reveal, we saw similar smatterings of grotesque shapeshifters and instantly iconic designs such as the facehugger-like parasites crawling into people’s mouths and transforming them into enormous, skeletal monsters. We also know from pre-alpha footage that Splitterhead will feature a playable dog, a nice break from all that unsettling body horror. Hopefully.
The trailer was shared online earlier today, although quickly removed. It has since been reuploaded by those who recorded it while it was up, indicating that this trailer was actually supposed to premiere at Summer Game Fest later today. We might get some more information about Slitterhead tonight, alongside this trailer’s official reveal. But for now, we have that all-important release date.
Incidentally, it puts Slitterhead pretty close to the release of theSilent Hill 2 Remake. This is set to launch on October 8 of this year and is being developed by Bloober Team. So, it’s setting up to be a pretty good year for horror game enthusiasts, even if there’s somediscourse about the new look of Silent Hill 2.
