Summary
Way back in October 2022, it was rather casually announced that Skybound hadsigned off on some Invincible video games, though it gave us very little info on what they could be. Since then, we’ve hadFortniteandMortal Kombatcollaborations, and a rather disappointing mobile title in Guarding the Globe byUbisoft, but it now seems like Skybound is ramping up its ambitions.
Announced earlier today, Skybound haslaunched a crowdfunding campaign on Republicto help fund a “highly produced, high-octane"Invinciblegame. According to the campaign, the funds will go towards a triple-A game studio that is made up of over 30 handpicked games industry veterans from the likes of EA and Activision Blizzard, all with the goal of creating a “first-of-its-kindInvincible experience.”

We don’t get much more information on what the game is going to be, but that hasn’t stopped people from pledging their cash in droves. At the time of writing, the crowdfunding campaign has already managed to reach its goal of $50,000, and is currently sitting on a total of $446,200 with a little under two weeks left to invest. This is on top of the $18 million that has already been raised from investors and other Republic users, so Skybound is definitely playing around with a decent chunk of change.
What Can We Expect From An Invincible Video Game
From the campaign’s description, we know that this isn’t going to be a small mobile title or weird visual novel. Invincible seems ripe for a video game right now, with the series more popular than ever, and it looks like Skybound is attempting to capitalize with something pretty ambitious. Skybound goes on to state that its Invincible game will release “under a premium model with multiple DLC expansions,” so it clearly has a bigger picture in mind.
We also know that it’s going to have some kind of online component, as the game will feature “competitive and local play modes,” though there are no details as to what these are going to look like. It sounds a lot like a live service game if we’re being honest, especially with the comment that Skybound intends to support the game “for years to come,” and live service superhero games don’t exactlyhave the greatest track record,at the moment. We’ll have to wait and see whether Skybound can buck that trend.
