Summary

Skatepublisher Electronic Arts has revealed that a console playtest is coming this Fall during this year’s Summer Game Fest.

Over the past couple of years, Skate developer Full Circle has been extremely open and transparent during the making of the game, holdingvarious betas and playtestswhile releasing a bunch of developer update videos to let players know exactly what’s going on. It’s beena breath of fresh air in what is otherwise an extremely secretive industry, and the announcement that Skate would be shown off during Summer Game Fest this year raised hopes that we may see the title fully launch at some point this year.

Skate Is Getting A Console Playtest This Fall

In case you don’t know much about Skate, unlike previous games in the series, EA and Full Circle announced back in 2022 that it will bea live service game and completely free-to-play. While that may ring alarm bells for some of you, Full Circle came out shortly after this announcement to stress that the gamewill not contain any paid loot boxes, will have no pay-to-win elements, and no maps locked behind paywalls. We don’t know just yet how EA plans to monetize the title, but we should be safe from some of the industry’s more predatory practices.

Alongside Skate’s playtest, we also saw the announcements of some brand-new experiences coming in the near future, such as Alan Wake 2’s Night Springs DLCthat includes three playable characters and launches tomorrow,a Lego Horizon gamethat will retell the story of Zero Dawn, anda side-scrolling beat ‘em up based on the Power Rangers.
