Summary
Two and a half years on from its exclusive release onNintendo Switch, your chance to buyShin Megami Tensei 5through the eShop is about to come to an end.Atlus has confirmedthat the base game and all of its DLC will be removed from the eShop at 11:59 pm on July 28, 2025. After that point, you will no longer be able to buy the game directly through Nintendo, but if you own Shin Megami Tensei 5 and its DLC, you will still be able to play it, and presumably re-download it if you’ve bought it in the past.
The removal of Shin Megami Tensei 5 is somewhat expected, but that doesn’t make it any less frustrating. The game will effectively be replaced by Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance which will be released on June 14, so quite literally seconds after the original version of the game is removed. A little annoying that those who just want the regular version of the game will no longer be able to, but if you do just want that version and not the upgraded Vengeance, this is your warning to buy it and any of the DLC you might want before June 14.

Vengeance will not only include additional content and act as a complete version of Shin Megami Tensei 5, but it will also be released on other platforms. The first time the game has been available to play on anything other than the Switch, so exciting times ahead for fans of the series who have been waiting for it to drop on other platforms before playing it. It will be the first time a Shin Megami Tensei game has been released onPlayStationplatforms for 20 years.

Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance will follow in the footsteps ofPersona 3 Reloadwhich launched a few months ago. Even though Persona is now a more widely recognized series, it actually started life as a Shin Megami Tensei spinoff. Atlus will also be kicking off an entirely new series viaMetaphor: ReFantazioin October, and it also releasedUnicorn Overlordin March.
Even though the original game will be leaving the eShop next month, Nintendo will be grateful a new release is hitting the Switch on June 14 via Vengeance. There’s not a lot confirmed to be coming to Switch throughout the rest of 2024 beyond that,Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, andNintendo World Championships: NES Edition. It has already been confirmed that there will be a Direct in June detailing the Switch slate for the second half of 2024.
