Now, hardcore fans might remember thatit was at the first Silent Hill Transmission that the Silent Hill 2 Remake was first revealedfor PlayStation 5. That event happened all the way back in 2022, andnews of the remake, which is being developed by Bloober Team with assistance from artists Masahiro Ito and Akira Yamaoka headlined the show. Ito had served as the art director on Silent Hill 2, while Yamaoka had served as the series' composer.
Elsewhere in that initial Transmission event,Silent Hill: Townfall,Silent Hill fandSilent Hill: Ascensionwere all announced, along with a new movie calledReturn to Silent Hill. To date, only Ascension has been released, leaving the remake, Townfall and f as remaining titles still in the works.
The Silent Hill 2 Remake projectreceived a second trailer, where gameplay was showcased during January’s State of Play. An updated teaserwas shared a few weeks after that on social media.
Since then, details have been relatively sparse.Series producer Motoi Okamoto did revealthat the project is in the “final stages” of its development a few months back. Andthe remake was rumored to be part of an unconfirmed PlayStation Showcase, though while a Showcase or State of Play has not been announced, it seems doubtful that the remake will have a presence in a potential one given this new dedicated event.
Perhaps the most noteworthy aspect of the game’s development has been the very public strife betweenBloober TeamandKonami. The team responsible for titles, includingLayers of FearandThe Mediumresponded to a concerned fan on social media, essentially pinning the game’s lack of information on Konami.
Bloober Team also took issue with umbrage with the State of Play combat trailerandsome of the fan feedback surrounding it. Inan interview that was picked up by Eurogamer, Piotr Babieno, who is the studio head, said that the trailer did not “capture the spirit of the game.” Babieno also asserted that when players see “a real game,” including gameplay, that they will “judge it in a completely different way.”
While things have been silent since then, it appears like both Konami and Bloober Team are ready to re-reveal their latest project. That re-reveal could include some updated gameplay as well as a release date.
