Summary

Silent Hill 2 Remake’srecent release date announcement and gameplay trailer have failed to impress longtime fans, as many are now up in arms over the new character models for both Angela and Maria.

Silent Hill 2 Remake is one of the bigger titles coming out this year, for better or worse, witha confirmed release date revealed just last night. Bloober Team always had an uphill task on its hands trying to remake one of the most beloved horror games ever made, and it seems to have struggled at almost every turn in trying to appease fans. When the game was first revealed, many were upset with the game’s combat, which was said to be too fast-paced and action-focused for Silent Hill 2’s original moody atmosphere.

Silent Hill 2: James Sunderland Swinging A Bit Of Wood At A Demon In Silent Hill

Now that we have even more footage thanks to PlayStation’s recent State of Play and the game’s standalone gameplay showcase, fans have latched onto something else to get up in arms over. To be fair, you can kind of see where they’re coming from too, as the character models for both Angela and Maria are coming under fire for looking cheap and altering iconic outfits.

Silent Hill 2 Fans Are Angry Over Remake’s Character Models

If you head tothe YouTube trailer for Silent Hill 2 Remake’s release date announcement, the first three comments you’ll find under the trailer are all criticizing Angela’s character model, each one garnering hundreds of likes. You have people saying it looks like she’s been “stung by bees,” that the original PS2 character model is way better, and that the voice acting isn’t particularly great either.

Angela isn’t the only character to be picked on either, asJames' wife Maria is also catching some heat. It’s all about the outfit this time though, as Bloober Team seems to have replaced her top and leopard print skirt with a more generic black dress and jacket. The reaction has been volatile, to put it mildly, and some are even claiming the replacement over her more revealing outfit as proof that Bloober doesn’t understand the game’s themes or its characters.

After Bloober Team almost got people back on boardwith the redesign of James Sunderland, this seems like a bit of a step in the wrong direction, unfortunately. There’s not much else Konami or Bloober Team can do to inspire confidence again before release, so we’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed that the game plays better than it looks at the moment.
