Summary
A reliable insider has claimed thatSegawants to makePersona,Sonic the Hedgehog, andLike a Dragon(which it currently views as its three main pillars) yearly releases through mainline entries, spin-offs, and side games.
Although Sega admittedly spent the last few generations in a bit of a rocky place (Sonic Forces, I’m looking at you), it seems to have finally found its footing in recent years bymostly relying on its heavy-hitters like Sonic, Persona, and Like a Dragon.Although we know it’s got a lot of plans to bring back its classic titles, it seems that won’t slow it down when it comes to those three series.
We’ve seen this a lot over the past year with the release of games likeInfinite Wealth,Persona 3 Reload, andSonic Frontiersas mainline entires in Sega’s big series, but there have also been a lot of smaller titles releases to go alongside them.Persona 5 Tactica,Like A Dragon: Gaiden, andSonic Superstarsare just a few clear examples of Sega trying to push these series further through smaller releases.
Sega Wants A New Persona, Sonic, And Like A Dragon Every Year
Sega’s business model and approach to releases when it comes to Persona, Yakuza, and Sonic has been made pretty clear recently, but if there was ever any doubt then reliable insider MbKKssTBhz5 has backed up what we’ve all been thinking.Over on Twitter, they reported that the current plan at Sega is to “make Like a Dragon, Persona, and Sonic annual franchises through new titles, remakes, and remasters, DLC expansions and other media”.
We’ve already seen Like A Dragon and Sonic do this fairly consistently over the past few years, but Persona does raise some eyebrowsconsidering how long we’ve all been waiting for Persona 6. MbKKssTBhz5 clarified that Sega considers spin-offs as new titles, alongside DLC expansions like The Answer epilogue for Persona 3 Reload.
“The quality of Persona series should not change. Because multiple titles are developed at the same time across multiple years. The current stage of Persona entered development in 2019. The current stage is P6, P3R, P5T and P5X.”
They also pointed out that Atlus has been developing multiple titles in the Persona series at the same time over the years, which we’ve seen with the multiple Persona 5 spin-offs, Persona 3 Reload, and, eventually Persona 6. Sega has already been putting its business plans into motion over the past few years, but it’s still nice to see it reported as being its goal.
