Summary

Personais more popular than it’s ever been at the moment, withPersona 5and its many, manysequels having catapulted the franchise from a cult classic franchise to a mainstream powerhouse. For millions of people, Persona 5 was their first introduction to the series, so it makes sense that developer Atlus would want to go back and give its older titles modern releases like it has done withPersona 3 Reload.

After reputable Sega insider Midori claimed thata Persona 4 remake is in development at Atlus, questions naturally began to spring up about the developer potentially bringing both Persona 1 and 2 to modern consoles, given they’re the hardest to get a hold of these days. Thankfully, Midori was on hand to clear up that as well, and has confirmed that remakes of Persona 1 and 2 are in development.

Unfortunately, we have no idea what form these projects are going to take. Shortly after claiming that these titles are getting the remake treatment, Midori says that they’re at the very least going to be getting “updated forms” at some point in the future, which suggests she’s not all that certain about how ambitious these remakes are going to be.

Persona 1 And 2 Remakes Might Be Planned, But Don’t Expect Them Soon

Given that Midori has been dishing out info regarding Persona projects for quite some time now, including very specific info such asthe setting of Persona 6andits color scheme, the fact she’s playing it safe right now suggests we won’t get these “updated forms” for quite some time. It would also make sense that Atlus would want to get Persona 6 and the Persona 4 remake out the door first, considering they’re much more highly anticipated.

Still, we might be waiting a while, but at least we know Atlus hasn’t forgotten about Persona 1 and 2 entirely. Persona 2: Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment are often claimed to be the best in the series, despite how much Atlus has been ignoring them for the past two decades, and it’ll be good to have a unique Persona story -focusing more on adults than angsty teens- readily available when they do eventually drop.
