Summary

Two years ago, we reported onValve finally acknowledging the cries from the #SaveTF2 movement. By that point,Team Fortress 2’s servers had been overrun with bots for years, making the game unplayable for many. But finally, in May 2022,Valvesaid that it saw “how large this issue has become” and was “working to improve things”.

Fast forward to 2024, and fans say this simply hasn’t happened. These same issues - bots spamming disruptive audio files and cheaters taking out players with aimbots - are still being reported inTeam Fortress 2, and players see no end in sight. So now, the SaveTF2 campaign is trying to get Valve’s attention once more, review bombing the game onSteam.

Fans Are Still Trying To #SaveTF2

As highlighted by Twitter user Weezy, Team Fortress 2 fell to mixed reviews on Steam for the first time yesterday. Today, that has fallen even further to mostly negative, and the reviews just keep coming in. At the time of writing, there are more than 20,000 negative reviews of the game, a figure that’s still rising.

This is quite the fall from grace. Team Fortress 2’s overall reviews are very positive, having amassed more than one million ratings since launching in 2007.

These reviews almost exclusively cite the state of the game as the reason for their negative rating. They say that Valve has “abandoned” the game, not doing enough to counter the well-documented issue of cheaters and otherwise disruptive bots making the game impossible to enjoy as a legitimate player.

There’s alsoa petitionthat calls on Valve to take notice. This has almost amassed 200,000 signatures and is also encouraging players to share gameplay footage that highlights what it’s like to play in a match with these bots.

Unfortunately for the Team Fortress 2 community, it looks like Valve is poised to focus on a new team-based shooter. Valve hasn’t confirmed this, butleaks suggest that it’s working on a game called Deadlock. With this in mind, it remains to be seen if Valve is willing to dedicate the resources to fix its older hero shooter, or if it’s looking to leave this behind.
