Update 14/05:This article has been amended to reflect that the original source of the information is the Spanish podcastDrycast, which shared this rumour back in January.

Summary

Capcomis reportedly working on a remake of the firstResident Evilgame, just in time for the series' 30th anniversary. If it launches in time for the big day, that would make it a 2026 release, meaning we might have a bit of a wait in between remake projects this time around.

This is being claimed by multiple leakers, including entertainment reporter Daniel Richtman. On his Patreon page, Richtman backs up the claims being shared by Twitter user @PRE_Alarabiya, which states that Resident Evil 1 Remake is in the works now, scheduled for 2026.

Resident Evil 1 Remake Said To Be In Development Now

Ashighlightedby another leaker, @StiviwonderN, this rumour originates from an episode of the Spanish podcast, Drycast. It was then picked up by @PRE_Alarabiya, bringing it to wider attention.

Richtman’s statement on the matter is brief, writing on his Patreon: “I also hear a Resident Evil 1 remake is in development.”

If true, this means that fans might not geta Resident Evil 5 Remakeanytime soon. It was widely assumed that this was what Capcom would work on next, following the huge success ofResident Evil 4 Remake. It evenlooked like the Separate Ways DLC was teasing Resi 5, but this may not have been the case.

In any case, it’s especially bad news for anyone after a remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica. If Capcom ever does get around to remaking this spin-off, then it looks like there could be two other remakes ahead of it now - and that’s not even getting into the next mainline instalment.

We’ll have to wait to see if Capcom confirms these rumours. We might get some official news soon though, as we rapidly approach the summer showcase season.
