In almost any RPG, one of the biggest concerns a player faces is developing their characters. Equipment, abilities, and other aspects of battle strategy all come into play, and few titles delve into these ideas quite as deeply as Unicorn Overlord. Combat plays out automatically, and players can only pre-set parameters to guide when and how their units will activate their Skills. It’s a unique system, but it boils down to one very familiar thing: Equipping your army with the right gear will be instrumental in their success.

We’ve already ranked the game’s best weapons, and another critical element of each character’s loadout is their Accessory Slot (or slots). Accessories can provide simple stat boosts, but they can also add invaluable, powerful new Skills for your characters to use. Whether you’re looking to boost your army in the early game or perform ludicrous late game combinations, these Accessories are some of the very best.

As Weapons, Shields, and Greatshields occupy their own slots in a loadout, this ranking will cover only items strictly categorized as Accessories.

10Iron Shackles

Emphasizing Your Slow Tanks’ Slow Tankiness To The Maximum

Typically, reducing a character’s Initiative is very counter-productive. This, essentially, is the speed stat, and dictates the normal order in which each combatant uses their Active Skills. Depending on the conditions you’ve set on a unit’s skills and your approach to a given battle, however, it can be beneficial to be able to ‘manipulate’ the order in which attacks are made. For instance, a faster attack that has an additional effect of reducing the defenses of the target requires a slower follow-up to best take advantage of the debuff. On top of that, the more defensive characters who have most to gain from the mitigating effect of the Iron Shackles will tend to need their Initiative the least.

This is a very niche item, and it’s unfortunate that it doesn’t provide a direct stat boost into the bargain as its effect can be rather debilitating in a lot of cases. Nonetheless, it’s a unique Accessory that is interesting to experiment with.It can be bought from the Black Market Trader.

Unicorn Overlord Golden Egg equipped in inventory slot

9Golden Egg

A Welcome Boost To Your Gold Reserves

Prince Alain has quite the logistical nightmare on his hands, keepinghis ever-swelling ranks (consult our recruitment guide if you’re concerned you might have missed any potential characters)organized and equipped. As more towns are liberated, an increasing amount of Armorers and Provisioners open their doors, and there are tempting weapons, shields, Accessories, items and the like that you’ll want to nab for your characters. It all gets very expensive, and you’ll probably find your Gold supplies running low often.

To help with this cash flow problem, the Golden Egg is an essential early-game pickup.Completing the sidequest Palevia’s Escaped Chickens yields a Golden Egg among its rewards, and Cesar gives you another on defeat in the Side Quest A Shifting Tide. Oevuille Town’s Armorer also sells it.

However you acquire it, its effect is simple: Giving a character a Golden Egg will cause their unit to receive twice the gold after battling. Whether you’re in need of the extra money or not, it can be very valuable to keep it equipped, but you’ll forgo another potentially powerful Accessory by doing so and there are no other benefits, in terms of character stats or otherwise, from equipping it.

Multiple characters in the same unit can equip a Golden Egg to multiply the benefit. Of course, doing this limits that unit’s Accessory versatility further.

8Lucky Coin

Luck (Or An Evasion Boost) Can Take You Very Far Indeed

As the old gaming maxim goes, defense and HP stats don’t matter if you don’t get hit. If you’re skilled enough, then, you can absolutely power through aMonster Huntertitle without equipping any armor at all. Similarly, the Lucky Coin will prove to be the best friend of any Thief or other evasive class in Unicorn Overlord.

A bonus of 20 points to Evasion is very significant, helping already dodging-inclined characters to dance around more blows. An evasive front-liner can mitigate so much damage for themselves and their allies, and the Lucky Coin will be one of the best Accessories for them. The increased chance of a critical hit that the item also offers gives it offensive utility too. A lot of classes, however, don’t have the base Evasion or Critical Rate to really make the item worthwhile, and/or would rather absorb damage for the team through guarding. The Lucky Coin can be acquired through the Coliseum’s reward system, and Sharon, the Cleric from the Side Quest The Winged Knight, already has one equipped if recruited.

Remember that opponents’ Truestrike Skills, like the Hunter’s Eagle Eye, allow them to hit their targets regardless of how high their Evasion may be.

7First Aid Kit

A Very Helpful Heal That May Otherwise Be Unavailable

In a lot of Unicorn Overlord formations, it can be quite difficult to find a space for a dedicated healing unit. The First Aid Kit can be a great help there, as it allows a character to restore a percentage of another’s HP at the end of combat.

This won’t help during the current battle, and the Accessory is otherwise ineffective, but it can be very nice for between-battle healing on longer maps. Essentially, any unit can take on a secondary healing role with the First Aid kit, widening tactical options.Colm has this Accessory already equipped when recruited alongside Melisandre after completing The Blade of House Meillet Side Quest.

6Gambler’s Coin

A Risk Worth Taking For A Supportive Unit

Typically, it’s safer to go for guarantees. A consistent attack, a surefire stat buff. The Gambler’s Coin makes things a bit more interesting, however. A supportive character’s role tends to be helping the others in the unit to keep fighting and to boost their damage, and the Gambler’s Coin is a fantastic way to do this.

When Inspiration augments the attack of an ally with a high Critical Hit rate, the results can be explosive. The issue is that it can be tricky to ensure it’s paired with the right Active Skill to avoid the chance of a costly miss. Further, the item doesn’t provide anything for the equipped character themselves. The Gambler’s Coin is available at the Armorer in Tiche Donné Town and Lebouge Hamlet.

5Sorcerer’s Medallion And Warrior’s Medallion

Perfect Equipment To Maximize The Strength Of Your Primary Attack Force

Among your army, of course, you’ll also have your main damage dealers. Some classes specialize in physical damage, such as the Sellsword, while the likes of the Witch and Wizard (along with their respective promotions of course) will be magical attackers. To get the very best use out of your respective powerhouses of each type, the Sorcerer’s Medallion or Warrior’s Medallion are highly recommended.

With boosts to the respective stat itself, a percentage increase, and a heightened chance to score a critical hit all in one slot, this can amount to a considerable power increase. It won’t help your more defensively-vulnerable characters in that respect, so that’s something to watch out for, but these items can potentially last for a full campaign. The Sorcerer’s Medallion is available at the Bellum Ghoria Hamlet Armorer, and the Warrior’s Medallion can be bought from Thulust Harbor. A Warrior’s Medallion is also dropped by Mordon on his defeat during The Barbatimo Liberation Quest.

4Angel Plume

A Huge Speed Boost, And More Besides

One of the simplest yet most effective strategies is hitting as fast and as hard as possible, thereby removing or reducing the number of opponents that can retaliate. The Angel Wing will be a wonderful addition to any damage-centric unit in particular, but it would be rare not to greatly benefit from it regardless of composition.

The Angel Plume gives the equipped character 20 extra points of Initiative, potentially outspeeding a range of opponents. Perhaps even more valuable is the Tailwind Skill, which increases a row’s Initiative into the bargain. If you have a unit with multiple flyers, the benefit is even greater. As you’ll have seen fromthe game’s many Rapport Conversations, combining suitable characters is important, so experiment with more flying characters in such a unit. In some cases, a raw attacking or defensive skill will be more beneficial, and some units won’t be particularly concerned about their Initiative, but this is an important item to acquire nonetheless. It’s obtained from the Divine Shard Exchange.

3Gold Bangle

A Potent Boost To Both Defenses

The potential problem with the wide range of skills that Accessories can provide is that they won’t fit certain characters. Instead, a simple Phys. Def and Mag. Def boost can be more fitting. The Gold Bangle is, perhaps, the most splashable of all the game’s Accessories, offering more of a bonus (and to both defenses) than similar items like the Bronze Bangle.

In combination with weapons that also buff defensive stats, such as the Zenoiran series, players can easily increase those key stats and make their characters far more resilient. It’s a perfect general choice for times when you’re not quite sure what to give a particular character, but it won’t excel as a niche yet more fitting Accessory will.A Gold Bangle is a reward from the story quest Tempest of White.

2Heavenwyvern Reins

Several Invaluable Boosts In One

There are a lot of equipment options to choose from in Unicorn Overlord, and only a limited number of slots for each character. The key is to make the absolute most of each one you have. The great thing about the Heavenwyvern Reins item is that it seems to combine multiple Accessories’ worth of positive effects together.

Increasing Initiative, HP, Phys. Def and Mag. Def, along with making any affected Active Attack a Truestrike, is a very powerful effect. You’ll find the Heavenwyvern Reins in the Divine Shard Exchange too,and overall, there’s arguably only one better Accessory in the game.

1White Cat-Ear Hood

Take Extra Turns And Break The Very Rules Of Combat

A white hood with cat ears might seem a silly pick for the game’s best Accessory, but this item has absurd potential. The value of the stat boosts and extra PP are obvious, but the big selling point of this item is Quick Impetus. Granting another turn to a friendly character opens the door to simply another attack, or a whole suite of tactical options using the game’s deep combat system.

The White Cat-Ear Hood can also be exchanged for Divine Shards, and it’s advised that players try to save up those shards for it as soon as they can. The only thing to bear in mind is that Quick Impetus requires a hefty 4 PP to use.
