Tips For Playing The Quaquaval ex Deluxe Battle Deck Post-Rotation

If you’re looking to try out the Quaquaval ex Deluxe Battle Deck for fun, then it isplayable directly out of the box. However, if you’re looking to play it in an official tournament, then there are a few minor changes you’ll need to make.

This is because some of the cards in the Quaquaval ex Deluxe Battle Deck areout of rotation. As a result, while you can play them in many non-competitivePokemon local events, when it comes to official tournaments, you won’t be able to include these cards.

For local events, make sure to talk to your Judge or Organizer about what cards are able to be played at each event. While Cups and Challenges will require a legal deck, some non-official challenges have rules decided by the event organizer.

Some of the cards included in the Quaquaval ex Deluxe Battle Deck that areno longer legal for official Pokemon eventsinclude:

Thankfully, although you won’t be able to use these included cards in tournaments, there are some substitutions available. For Klara, this includes cards such asEnergy Retrieval, Super Rod, and Superior Energy Retrieval. However, there is no single card that can exactly match Klara’s effect.

For Escape Rope, the isonenear-perfect substitute:Prime Catcher. This Ace Spec will allow you to switch your own Pokemon as well as your opponent’s. However, Prime Catcher isn’t identical to Escape Rope.

First, while it does let you switch which Pokemon is in your opponent’s Active Spot, unlike Escape Rope, you’ll get to choose. Second, this powerful card falls under the rules of other Ace Specs, meaningyou can only play a single copyin your deck. As a result, you may need other pivoting or gusting cards in your deck, likeJet Energy, Switch, or Boss’s Orders.

Quaquaval ex Deluxe Battle Deck Cards

Because it is designed to be a ready-to-play deck immediately out of the box, the Quaquavel ex Deluxe Battle Deck includes a variety of important cards. Each card included is valuable in some way, contributing to the overall gameplay provided in this deck, whether as a Pokemon or a Trainer card.

However, some cards are more important than others, beingessential to the functionality of the deck. While other cards could be interchanged, helping you to tailored this premade deck to your own play style, changing these cards could be detrimental. This is because the deck would either fit under a different archetype entirely, or it would sacrifice a potentially game-altering card.

Here are some of themost important cardsincluded in the Quaquaval ex Deluxe Battle Deck.

Quaquaval ex

Quaquaval ex is the star of this deck as yourmain attacker.

Not only that, but the effects of Quaquaval ex’s deck can help you tostrategically navigate your opponent’s Benchbut provide a method of changing out your opponent’s Active Pokemon—although you won’t be able to choose the new Active Pokemon, unlike with Boss’s Orders.

Irida

Because this deck plays Rare Candy, so long as you have a Quaxly in play and all the cards needed in your deck,Irida can guarantee you a Quaquavel exon your second turn and beyond.

This is because Irida allows you to search forany Water Pokemon in your deck, regardless of stage,as well as any Item card. As a result, you’re able to use Irida to find Rare Candy and Quaquavel ex, evolving your Quaxly as early as your second turn.

While this is one of the main and most popular uses of Irida in the Quaquaval ex Deluxe Battle Deck, however, it isn’t the only way you’re able to utilize this powerful Supporter.

This deck also includes Energy Search. As a result, you can use Irida to find a Pokemon and an Energy Search, ultimately securing you at least one Energy in your hand.

Having an extra Energy in hand can be essential when looking to useRadiant Greninja’s Concealed Cards Ability, which allows you to discard a basic Energy in order to draw from your deck.

Quaquaval ex Deluxe Battle Deck Strategy

Because this deck plays Irida and Rare Candy, you’ll want to go first whenever possible. This will allow you thegreatest possible potential to have a Quaquavel exbefore your opponent is able to Knock Out your Quaxly.

If you do end up going second, Indeedee’s Expert Nurturer attack can help you evolve into Quaxwell or Arctibax as needed.

Once you are entirely set up, you’ll be able to attack with Quaquaval ex. However, because of the effects of each attack, it is important to consider your next turns carefully before attacking.

Exciting Dancecan be a safe option when you don’t need to apply a large amount of damage. The effect of this attack, which allows you and your opponent to switch out the current Active Pokemon for a new one, doesn’t occur every time you attack. Instead, it will only occur if you choose to switch out your Pokemon first.

When you useSpiral Shot, however, the effect will apply every time you use this attack. This requires that you take two of the Energies attached to Quaquaval ex andput them back into your hand.

Thankfully, the Quaquaval ex Deluxe Battle Deck includesBaxcalibur. This will allow you toattach as many Water Energies as neededper turn. This means that if you have to use Spiral Shot on one turn, then so long as the Energies remain in your hand, Baxcalibur can help attach them to your next turn.

Baxcalibur allows you to attach as many basic Water Energies to one Pokemon as you want per turn. There is no limit to how many times this Ability can be used in a single turn, allowing you to rapidly set up your Bench.

Quaquaval ex Deluxe Battle Deck Common Threats

Because this is a deck centered around Water Pokemon, one of the biggest threats will be Electric decks. This is because Electric decks, such as theMiraidon ex deck, will applydouble the damageto your Pokemon. As a result, many of your Pokemon will be Knocked Out after a single attack.

Iono, Judge, and Roxanne can also pose a threatduring your game. This is because the successful use of Spiral Shot relies on being able to reattach those Energies during your next turn using Baxcalibur. These Supporters will put all the cards in your hand back into your deck, leaving yourEnergy attachment for the next turn not guaranteed.
