Summary

The post-apocalyptic genre is one of the more popular in the entertainment industry. Whether it’s a natural disaster, nuclear war, orgood old-fashioned zombies, gamers love surviving and thriving in a world of the unknown. That’s why it isn’t a coincidence that several games have been turned into TV series.

One of the latest isThe Last Of Us, with the first season a breathtaking adaptation of the game. Epic Games:Gears of Warlooks to be the next one to hit the screens. There is always room for more, with plenty of post-apocalyptic games that fans would love to see made into a TV series.

8Tom Clancy’s The Division

You may have seen plenty of post-viral outbreak films and TV shows. However, Tom Clancy’s The Division could bring Manhattan’s stunning backdrop to our screens. As a sleeper agent, you join the task force in the borough of New York, propelling criminal groups such as Rikers and Rioters. All this while investigating the cause of the virus.

Fans of Tom Clancy’s The Division will remember that there was a time when the game was set to be made into a movie. After plenty of director changes, Rawson Marshall Thurber was the latest name to take the lead, with Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain slated to star. However, since the announcement in 2021, nothing more on the project has materialized, meaning it could be the end of a potential film. It leaves the door open for a possible TV series.

7Horizon Zero Dawn

Just picture the epic fight scenes Horizon Zero Dawn would bring to a TV series.Aloy vs powerful robotic creatureson your screen would look amazing. Also, the story will have you on a rollercoaster of emotions as you follow Aloy, discovering her origin.

Plenty of material is available to adapt the game into a TV series, as its storytelling makes it one of the best games of all time. The second installment,Horizon Forbidden West, offers even more excellent story arcs for future series if the first were ever to happen.

Zombies will always be popular within any genre, but Dead Island will differ from what you have seen before. Of course, you will see zombie slaying, but it would be with a comedy edge on an exotic island.

The game has four playable characters: a rapper, an American football player, a Hong Kong government spy, and an ex-police officer. The correct casting choices for these roles would be the key to the show’s success. With the brutal “modded” melee weapons we see in the game, it would need to be made for mature audiences.

5Metro 2033

It may be tough to get this video game, which was adapted from a novel, onto our screens. Set in Moscow after a devastating nuclear war, the remaining survivors live increepy underground tunnels and railroads known as the Metro.

The game gives you that eerie feeling, having you on edge throughout. It would make a perfect TV series for horror fans, with mutant enemies, including humans and animals. However, with a potential film collapsing in 2018 due to conflicting decisions about how the film should look, it may be a TV series pipe dream.

4Rage

One game that fans have been petitioning to see on the big screen since its 2011 release is Rage. You play the main character, former U.S. Marine Lieutenant Nicholas Raine, trying to take down an organization named the Authority.

Another game that would bring stunning visual effects to the screen. The story and backdrop are what most fans resonate within a post-apocalyptic TV series. Would we see actor John Goodman play the role of Dan Hagar who he voiced in the game?

3Destiny / Destiny 2

Destiny has all the makings of an epic TV series. Set in a mythological science fiction world, it features guardians protecting the Earth’s last safe city. In Destiny, there are five alien races, all looking to take over the Last City.

The game has such an in-depth storyline, and alongside fascinating characters, it would surely be a big hit for TV fans. The game has an array of stars that voiced in-game characters. Lenny James, Gina Torres, and Lauren Cohan were just a few of those who I’m sure would love the opportunity to be part of a potential Destiny TV series.

2Far Cry New Dawn

There are no zombies or mutants here, just good old-fashioned bandits set after a post-nuclear exchange that devastated the world. The game is set in the same fictional town as Far Cry 5, Hope County, what is left of it anyway. This time, you must propel a bandit organization known as the highwaymen, taking back the town little by little.

Despite receiving mixed reviews compared to the previous games, Far Cry New Dawn could have a place in the hearts of fans as a TV show. The game’s theme of a post-apocalyptic future could be adapted into a perfect storyline for TV.

1Wasteland

Humans vs Cyborgs in a post-nuclear world. The original Wasteland game would not sell the TV series to you with its graphics - given it was released in 1988. However, the story is worth making it onto your screens, which is why it’s surprising it hasn’t already.

Set in 2087, a small force called the Desert Rangers protects the Southwestern area of the United States. The story unfolds with secrets being discovered that could change the world as they know it. It’s gripping and even inspired the Fallout series.
