Funko Popsweren’t a thing whenPokemonfirst burst onto the scene, and even when the figures did start to get popular, it was a while before Pokemon hopped on the bandwagon. That means The Pokemon Company has some catching up to do, and it has been taking that very seriously during the first half of 2024. Lots of new figures have been released already this year, and a first look at the next three, which will likely be going on sale later this week, has been revealed.
Ever since introducing us to its first starters, it’s evident Pokemon likes to do things in threes. Three new Pokemon Funko Pops revealed this week, and an image of the trio shared byFunko Pops News. Sprigatito, Blaziken, and Teddiursa are the next Pokemon getting the Pop honors. A particularly exciting time for Teddiursa fans as the teddy bear Pokemon’s debut Popjoins its Squishmallowwhich was released at the end of 2023. An even more exclusive club than the Pokemon Funko Pop one.
Despite the attention Teddiursa is getting, Sprigatito is the headliner here and will potentially be the best-selling Pop of the three. Ever since it was introduced as the Grass-type starter inScarlet & Violet, it’s been evident that Pokemon is keen to make the cat Gen Nine’s Pikachu. Not only is it a rare example of a Grass-type starter Pokemon people like more than its Fire and Water-type equivalents - yeah, I said it - but Sprigatito is filling the Pikachu role as Liko’s partner Pokemon in the anime.
Pokemon’s Next Three Funko Pops
Rounding out the trio is Blaziken. Somewhat surprising that Blaziken has made it into the growing world of Pokemon Pops before its pre-evolved form Torchic. Torchic already looks like a Funko Pop and its design would require very little work to turn it into a figure. The Fire-type starter will have to wait though and clearly the good people at Funko wanted more of a challenge. Blaziken, Sprigatito, and Teddiursa’s Pops are expected to be available to buy later this week, likely on Wednesday.
Nine potential new Pokemon Funko Popswere leaked earlier this year, and that all three of these new ones were on that list further cements that leak was accurate. The reveal thatGreninja, Snubbull, and Chimchar were the first three on the list to be confirmed, and now it’s six out of nine via this week’s reveals. The only three Pops left on the rumored list of nine are Alolan Raichu, Quaxley, and Mimikyu, meaning those three will likely be revealed together in the near future.
